Forgot to mention that Reimu still lost with the help of Remilia, Marisa and Sakuya, three of Gensokyo's finest. Not only that but Yorihime was fighting alone. Eirin had the help of Kaguya, Reisen, Tewi and all the other people who tired out Reimu leading up to their fight.

All Reimu had against Eirin was Yukari. There's no excuse for Eirin losing, Yorihime is just stronger than Eirin. Reimu had so much strength left after her fight with Eirin that she went and man-handled Mokou.

No but it would rob them of their immortality. The backstory of Touhou goes something like this, a human (sage) on Earth learned through meditation that sin is what causes death. Read Tenshi's story dialogue against Alice and several other characters.
It was clear that she was holding and they were surprised by her power.
