I used to, but then one of my friends found out and ratted me out to the community we're a part of. He wanted me to be honest or some shit about who I am. I never wanted to really deceive anyone, I just wanted to be treated like a girl, since that's how I feel I should have been born. This guy also has made me very nervous about actually going to therapy because of various talks he gives me, and I also happen to like him a lot. He's also shown interest in me, but I think he only wants to explore his homosexuality and is using me to exploit that, and he doesn't want me to truly go down the path of becoming a girl. Same with some other guys I know, all I am is fetish fuel for their cross dressing fantasies or whatever. I doubt I'll ever find a guy who treats me like the girl I should have been.

It's the only way I've interacted with people online, besides anonymous posting.

Over the years it got a little out of hand. I racked up several online personalities (maybe 7-8 deep enough to be called "personalities" now), all with different backstories and traits... and depending on who I was speaking to, I could switch between them with ease. The scary part was that I never once felt like "a man pretending to be a woman on the internet". I WAS the woman. The moment I sat down in front of the screen an entire new mental world opened and it didn't go away until the computer turned off. The way I spoke, thought and interacted with people totally changed.

I stopped because of what >>8193455 mentions. Men fell in love with me. At first it was just kind of cute, but when you actually consider what that involves it is quite disturbing. Some guys offered to let me live with them. They sent lengthy emails, thousands of words long, and in the end I had to start ignoring them because it had gone too deep. The silver lining is that I had more than a few guys tell me they had been depressed until they met me, and that our conversations rekindled their motivation and will to live a good life.

Even now it's too tempting. If I go to join a community that involves names and so on, instinctively I start building a female persona. So I avoid anything like that. Anonymous boards are the best place for me, since personality doesn't really matter.

The funny part is I'm not gay and don't have any real desire to be female IRL

The game got completely ruined by the cash shop, and because of it everybody started hacking. The cash shop isn't as bad as it used to be, but all the hackers remain. Its not so bad if you manage to join a game in the 21+ bracket, but everybody plays on the Free Server which lets all the level 1 new accounts in.

I remember when I was like that... Now I have mindset issues. I honestly don't know which one is the real me anymore. The first month or so "pretending" online was odd, but you get used to it real easy and the mindset becomes a part of you.

Seeing as I talk to people online more than I do offline, I feel as if when I go outside I have to put on this fake male persona.

A lot of you guys can't be all that bad off, if you are able to socialize online you're not that far off from being a normal person. Having GID is definitely a problem, but I'm sure people will accept you for who you are if you are open about it.

As for me, I always play female characters but log off if anyone try's to talk to me. Way too stressful. I'd feel guilty if I was taking free things anyway, plus I'm really good at games so nobody would believe I was a girl. I also have no real desire to be the little girl... I mean I guess it would be nice, but I want to protect and hug a girl more than be one.

Is it bad that I'm jealous of creepy guys online that can pretend to be girls and socialize? Without anonymous forums I really would be fucked. But its not like I post much anyway... I guess I'm dedicated to my role of observer in life.

I truly never pretend to be a girl online before. Strangest part is I was always able to tell who was female and male part. I didn't really cared if they pretend to be a different gender and it was fun to talking to them. Sadly, the males pretend to be females fall for me or the females pretending to be males do as well. I'm not a person cut out to love someone else because I can't love myself. Shit is awkward when they confess their interest in you especially on skype. In MMO's I could never do it. I always made the boring humanoid character who looked most like me, and used the least amount of magic. I want to be ME, but inside that world, and that's the best way I could do it.
I've tried the playing as a girl character before, but I never got into the character and just deleted them after a few hours. It felt like watching someone else do stuff rather than myself.
I am content with how I look and who I am, my flaws are more character quirks anyways.

I don't tell people my gender but if they ask for a picture I gladly show it and since I am pretty androgynous it works in my favor since even then people still don't know. Any invites to voice chat so they can ascertain my true gender are swiftly rejected. I find that it works rather well this way since people imprint whatever gender they want on you it seems. It's also easy to tell if someone is dropping hints that they like you so I also swiftly but an end to them by dropping obvious hints but not things that would soul crush someone, just so they know I would say no.

Been doing it for 6 years and apply it to everything I do online. By now it's more of a real personality than my offline one. I have no offline friends so that won't ever be a problem.

So far I've been offered quite a lot of stuff in online games and a few confessions but I turn it all down.
Wish my voice wasn't this deep so I could work something out with a voice changer and not have to deal with never accepting voice chat requests, even with people I'm very close to and have told a lot of personal things to.

I just wish I had actually been born female. Not to change anything about my life of being a neet and shut-in, just to make my online identity real.

I know that feel all to well. Pic related.

That said I do not purposefully try to act female online. Instead I've taken to never stating my gender unless explicitly asked (who does this really?) and avoiding voice communications with most people. If someone gets a little flirty, I might get a little flirty back, but I always have the option to just not respond.

I have mixed feelings about that. On one hand, I'm deceiving them, but on the other, it's the only way I can get people to speak to me.

I think that has little to do with the fact that they think you're a girl. Often times people just need/want someone other than their friends and family to talk to and care about them. Just so they know they honestly want to help and are not just doing it because they need to.
