While I admit Spartacus's design is... that, as a character and a historic figure, I think he's done very well. His Noble Phantasm is pretty awesome and a nice symbol of how stronger oppression only breeds stronger resistance until one side collapses, which Spartacus embodies well.

Only with prep time. Caster = batman

With enough prep-time, traps, and sneaky shit batman has beaten the piss out of superman on several occasions. But if he was just thrown into a random fight with any of superman's random foes he would be dead in seconds (because he is just a normal human under the cape).

This is why casters have to fight smart and fight dirty.Assassin is similar.

They can use powerful magic without prep time, but all servants are very magic resistant. Saber class in particular is virtually immune to all conventional magical attacks.

So a caster needs to use territory creation (their specialty) to lure an opponent into their lair, or at least create a workshop to manufacture magical weapons/artifacts. They rely on item creation to augment themselves and their master for combat against other servants.

Tamamo was rare in that she wasn't really interested in making a workshop or crafting items. At best she knitted a cute little fox for her masta, and while this was adorable it didn't really do anything.

IIRC a big part of this is that servants are reliant on their master for prana/mana/MP. Caster servants expend mana when casting spells, so they are much more reliant on their master than other classes, and even a skilled master won't have as much mana as a Caster had when they were alive.

e.g.: David Copperfield, drawing on his own impressive reservoirs of mana, can make a Boeing 747 disappear into thin air, Servant Caster David Copperfield, who draws upon his masters mana plus what mana he can leech from the enviroment, can only make a VW disappear.

4th Caster's book was pretty powerful. It was subduing just every other Servant at once and stood toe-to-toe with Rider's EX NP. He was just unlucky in that some of the Servants had nuke NPs specialized in countering his NP.

Berserkers kinda are. I mean they get things sealed off when summoned into the class. Lu Bu's YOU ARE THE GREATEST WEAPON EVER thing can't be used as anything but a Bow,Berserker can't use his Bow, and Lancelot loses Knight of Honor + That For Glory shit when he draws Arondight...

Although in Lancelots case its kinda unknown if drawing WHY Arondight seals Knight of Honor away since the only conclusion most people can reach is that its just Nasu stepping in and going "Fuckers too overpowered and i'm not allowing that"

It's because Iason is a Rider class heroic spirit. He summons the Dragon of Colchis. It's just that the character idea was never used not even sketched, but having a jackass neutral evil summoner guy could be loads of fun. Like evil Alexander. I can see him using the Fleece to summon the argonauts to fuck people over with Heracles, incredibly weakened and dependent on prana of Iason who is dependent on his master's mana - that's the obvious choice if the author intends to make him something else than the servant of the week.

And of course, he wants the Grail because he sees it as a chance to become the king he never was. Could be fun meeting Gil.

I'm guessing it will be more like PSP monster hunter portable, where you link up with 3 friends. This style of game is currently the biggest market for the PSP. (Monster hunter freedom 3 sold 4.7 million copies, and was the fastest selling PSP title of all time). My guess is that type-moon want a piece of that action.

Limiting it to only 3 or 4 players would work well in limiting the number of unique characters & servants needed.A full MMO would not work.

If so, I had an idea about him being a servant at one point, although I figured his NP would be some kind of infinite coffer or wall of shields. Maybe the ability to determine what course is necessary to win any battle, even if he doesn't have the ability to accomplish it.

They fit the general "legendary hero" image better, which means (artifacts notwithstanding) you have more probability of summoning some powerful big shot.
Magic isn't really fitting for heroes because it's more of an helper or antagonist role, going berserk is usually either a dark side or an obstacle in the hero's journey, and well assassination is pretty self-explanatory.
The original Grail wasn't supposed to summon people like Medea or Medusa, and Hassan was the only loophole that allowed for an Assassin class.

Knights have hueg stat requiments. If you summoned Lancer, Archer or saber, you can be sure they are decent and only get better depending on the situation. Knight classes by definition aren't ALLOWED to be shit.
Rider apparently ALWAYS has a good NP, but can be easily curbstomped if he isn't given time or it's just not good enough. Assassin gives you various options, but can be easily curbstombed by any other class face to face. Caster gives you some options too, but can be easily curbstomped by any Knight class. Berserker rids you of options.

Because the original servants in FSN were designed so that they would be ancillary to the story. For example Gil was designed was to be countered by Shiro. It's similar in FZ. These servants were designed with no particular story in mind so they seem pretty overpowered.

Well I didn't mean fighting wise. I meant it as a sort of utility. Saber would be the best class if you just wanted him to go and wreck people's faces, but if you wanted the master to be safe from other masters/have an edge over them then he's better as Rider. Siegfried just take some minor stat losses I think, doesn't the magic resist go down by one rank too?
