I feel like the passion behind having a waifu is lost. So many people find a character and think it's a set of rules they have to follow in order to be allowed to call her his waifu. On valentine's day, people eat with their waifu, not because it deeply pleases them, but because it's tradition. They buy figures, not because they can't resist buying it whenever they see merchandise of her, but because it seems natural to buy figures of their waifu.

I think calling them waifus just limits us. It makes us obsessed with definitions instead of just following our hearts. I miss seeing people whose hearts burned for that one 2D girl. They didn't need to explicitly declare a fake relationship with that girl, their emotions spoke for themselves.
