Okay so, a friend asked me to make him a kigurumi recently, but of a Pokemon. Specifically of a Gardevoir. That's this one in case you aren't savvy of Pokemon. Anyway, it turned out better than I expected, and I've been thinking of producing a few more and selling them on ebay or something. I'm just not sure if there's enough crossover between Pokemon fans and kigurumi fans for that. Sound like something anyone would be interested in? I've got enough fiberglass and materials to make maybe three, and if those sell I can always make more.

I'm located in Southern California, like an hour outside LA. I figure human characters would be more popular, that's why I wanted to gauge if there would be any interest in this. I normally do things like Super Sentai and Kamen Rider helmets, or armor and props for a student film troupe. This was my first attempt at a kig and I was pleased with how well it turned out, even if it is of a Pokemon.

The reason I don't want to see his pictures is because when I asked him if he was planning to wear the mask to convention or something, he said it was just for his "private" use. That makes me wary of what kind of pictures he's going to take.

After years of prop and helmet making, I can work fairly fast and still do quality work. the initial sculpt only took me two days thanks to the abundance of reference pics he sent me, plus another two to fiberglass and cure it proper. I dunno if that's good or bad compared to other mask makers, but working with film makers taught me to get stuff done on deadlines.

I would post pics of the Kamen Rider OOO helmet I made, but I always keep all my work pics on my camera. The one that I lent away. Because I'm a genius apparently.

Maybe cosplay forums or something? There's tons of materials you can work with. I was surprised in some kig threads on /cgl/ that when mentioning the FRP process, they all pretty much knew what it was already! Prop-making is a big blend of all sorts of things, really. Could be woodwork, plastic, fiberglass, sewing, gluing, sculpting sawing... I think sculpting is the hardest thing to do though, you've got to have an eye for detail and it takes a lot of refinement.

But, I ramble. The best method is to lay out what you want to do, look around for WHAT youre going to need to do, choose a method to do it, then research the crafts you'll need to get the job done. I read at least 7 or 8 kig tutorials thrice over before starting on mine, wig tutorials, silicone mold-making videos, fiberglass car-repair videos, sculpting tips, etc etc. It's good to get as much research as possible, you never know if you'll be working with something dangerous/difficult and end up hurting yourself or ruining your work because you didn't know that silicone won't cure on sulfur-based clays or something.

Sorry for just vague tips, I'd take a look at "Vulpin Props"'s blog and flickr, he details EVERYTHING about his amazing prop-making processes.

I think it's going to be a pretty standard image board at first, but I'm also considering the idea of integrating it into a -booru so that the images can be tagged and searched and whatnot, although I'm not so sure how well that would work.

drydock /kig/ was a really poor replacement for chan3 /kigu/.

When /kigu/ went down it really split the board community up, and it's taken a long time to reassemble a decent number of contributors here on /jp/ (and it's still a shadow of /kigu/).

I don't think an image board someone is going to hack together in a week with no concern for load or bandwidth or user experience or how good their hosting is, is really going to help. It'll probably just split everyone up when it breaks again.
