You know, we all so often hear about /jp/ being so shitty etc, but we almost never get anything discussing something beyond that, beyond simply saying how shitty it is. The staff can't fix all our problems; relying on them to fix /jp/ is a fallacy, because we alone control just how shitty or not shitty it is, during the 99% of the time we're not being raided/spammed... and so don't go blaming outsiders and interlopers for all our problems.

So, I'll ask, quite simply, how do we make /jp/ better? Not just that, but what do you think would honestly improve the place overall, while dealing with the reality that you can't just wave your hands and change board topics, make a Touhou or VN board etc, or wave your hands and remove certain users/boards from existence?

In other words, what kind of topical, actually useful content do you want to see, that you think /jp/ lacks, but could use more of? What would your ideal /jp/ be? If we can at least get some voices out on where some of us honestly stand, and where we would like to take /jp/, we all could gain some constructive insights.

Each subgroup living here on /jp/ has their own ideals on how the board should be and asking something like this is going to result in terrible things happening.

Putting perspectives aside, one of the biggest problems with /jp/ is that everything that belongs to is easily relevant to other boards. Top that off with /jp/'s tendency to redirect everything they don't like, and you've got yourself an entire board dedicated to distributing pointers to other boards.

By ignoring bad and/or trolls threads as we used to. As should be evident, that's not going to happen though.

When an apple rots, you can't make it better anymore. I've seen several boards suffer the same fate and they always follows more or less the same pattern. /jp/ has simply been surprisingly resilient, mainly due to the small userbase.

I think it's more of what we don't need in the board, rather than what we want.
Honestly, I think it's just discussing things like 3D that need to leave. Some people from /r9k/ or /v/ come here and join our crossdressing and sex toy threads, and think this is some kind of board for finding people to have sex with.
If we could just ignore, or even hopefully get rid of the normalshit posters that wonder here every now and again, it'd be fine.

There are some groups I don't particularly like, such as idolfags, but they are very clean people.
Random touhou threads, saten, flanfly, kuroko and such are pretty cute sometimes, I don' t really mind it, even if they are kind of stupid threads.

Meta threads like this aren't so bad in moderation either I guess. As long as there aren't more than 3 on the board at a time anyways. It's like /jp/ checkup.

Nothing, the board doesn't need 15 full pages of content. Aside from the spam, shitposting, and misc touhou threads, the other content has everything they need in one.. sometimes two threads. Its kept civil, and usually in an easy to find manner linking previous threads, general resources, and future threads at the bump limit.
Honestly, if it weren't for shit like /b/ raids knocking those threads off page 15, most people wouldn't even notice or care. The threads are pretty self-contained.
The board is literally 100% fine, and only shitty because of fucking spam. Not the actual users themselves.

We've had frequent metathreads since October 2008, and no amount of discussion has ever gotten us somewhere. The conclusions are always the same: ignore the bad, contribute more. Also xenophobia and keeping kids out of the board.

As time goes on it becomes more evident that more people have just given up. They either have turned to posting garbage to amuse themselves or just don't care anymore what happens to the board and focus on the few threads that caters to their interests without even peeking on the front page.

There is nothing we can do now. Our time is over and we can't keep holding on, tooth and nail, to an idea of the board that hasn't been there for well over two years. Your metathread is not any different and nothing will change. Even if we got 24/7 moderation things will remain the same.

Better get used to it and go with the flow if you want to remain here. Or join the diaspora. Who knows, we might meet again somewhere else.

I don't think I'm quite like you. I've been here since Feb 08, I've seen all the ups and downs. I pretty much never make threads actually (counting this my total's less than five started threads), and rarely even post; this is very unusual of me to do actually. I'm pretty active on ghost but that's not the same.

For people like me and the couple of others who made their their post-split home to stick around this long, whether it's sentimentality or topics there ARE some things /jp/ does very much right even today. There are ways to improvement though, I dare not suggest what I'd do though. This thread isn't about me.

I'm OP. I'm sorry to contradict (and to have made this thread), but /jp/ has not always been the same. In most respects, yes, we've very much always been the same. Even a little better than before. In others, no.

The IRC circle was not always there. /bun/ was not always there. These seem inconsequential, and normally, I very much do not give even a small shit about them. However, they very much wish that we'd give a shit about them. We're like the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The situation hasn't changed in years besides little useless incidents that cause huge headache. We're all getting too old for this shit. What we see is what we get. We need to remain more insulated than ever from the other boards because we won't get any more splinters (word of moot) and our only other option is to go back to /a/ or to a fetid piece of shit like /bun/ or TC. We get more insulated by getting a better sense of each others' thoughts and wishes for /jp/ so we can better coordinate. The more of us speak out on actually making /jp/ less shitty, the lesser the influence Jones, Sion etc will have, that's the real way to fight them off. Of course I knew this thread would go to shit, but I just wanted to get the idea out there to remind people.. that and to distract everyone from that autism incarnate meta about the buttranger.

I sometimes feel now that such efforts as these are pretty fruitless now though. Everything I just said above.. I fear it's now meaningless to a good chunk of our populace nowadays. Yet, I can't just start out with a rant like that that's not on the ghost board. So what else could I do.
