I'm not used to it for soku. It makes my wrists hurt for some reason, but I can use it just fine for SSF4. I think my sitting position and the different chair make all the difference.

I made sure to pick a new character just so that I wouldn't rage and how much I have to adjust, etc.

You guys should probably also learn the mechanics. The only thing more pathetic than watching two Youmus turtle during Spring Haze is watching one of them bomb out of pressure with close to a full meter during it.

Agreed. Those matches were just beyond sad. I mean, I've seen some terrible players before, but they just take the cake.

Also, Youmu? Utter gash. Use a character that's actually good, like Iku.

Youmu's good enough.

The only character I would advise people stay away from is Utsuho.

And not because she's bad, she's not. But I have never seen a character drive people towards terrible habbits and retarded play quite like her. She brings out the worst in everyone.

Yeah, I remember after Soku came out we had Soku threads going basically 24/7 for over a year afterwards. Lots of good times.

>> No.8096799

>>8096659

For a while, no one really hated it and we enjoyed it quite a bit. Then suddenly it was decided that it wasn't cool anymore for some arbitrary (and assuredly stupid) reason. Oh, if I recall correctly, someone tried to move it to /v/ or argue they were /v/ threads or something? My memory's a bit dim on exactly why the Soku threads suddenly stopped. But they used to get up to 200+ posts basically daily for a very long time, pretty much all just hosting and discussion / spectating etc. Remember when we were all playing World of Tanks? How it started to get argued that it really should go to /v/ (who of course dropped the ball)? Because of that discussion people started to argue maybe Soku should go there too since all the other fighters go on /v/. Hell, one of the old meidos (AoC?) started deleting Soku threads on account of that general line of discussion being popular at the time, if I recall correctly. The more I think about it the more I think that's what it really was..

I mean there's still the IRC but it's just not the same.

Japs still play soku quite a bit though too though if I recall correctly. Then again their internet is much faster than ours and also they're all localized in a small area relative to /jp/'s range.. pan-ocean connections on soku don't often turn out that well.

I also suppose that the next time there's an update to the Tasofro fighters (or some other kind of new multiplayer Touhou game) we'll be on it like wildfire. What I'd really like to see is an engine/sprite update, that plus a few balancing tweaks.

Although wait a minute... if we actually would be playing a Touhou game together again, why aren't we all playing Age of Ethanols? It only came out about two months ago..

Basically, the community got fractured into three pieces (/jp/, #hisouten, Soku Lobby) and when the threads started to fall off the pages after a few dozen posts or so, people kept remaking them for a while until they got tired and moved to one of the other venues, and since there were never many players to begin with this accelerated the death of the threads in /jp/. Wow, what are the odds. Just the other day I finally decided to pick up IaMP at long last and give it a shot, and now this? Excellent.

One thing I was wondering though: Should I keep at IaMP or switch to SWR? Might be a no-brainer but I'm not sure what sortof changes were made. Alternatively, do any of the additional characters play like Dudley, or are there any grapplers somehow?

Also just tried out Meiling an hour or two ago, first impression reminded me heavily of SF3's twins & Makoto.

Captcha = Alice Attitude, shame I don't play her.

IaMP and 12.3 are both completely different games. There isn't any grapplers in soku, unless you count Suika. But most of the time, her grabs are pretty useless unless it's atlas, which is a fine reversal. But really, you can't compare IaMP and 12.3.

I'd say just play both of them, they're both fine games. IaMP is better if you want a more traditional touhou fighter. SWR/12.3 if you want something less serious and more laid back. It's certainly possible to balance both of the games and be good at both of them.

What I mean is that playing Utsuho is like driving a truck. A lot of force behind it, but harder to control. I didn't play her partially because her movement was so terrible, airdashes taking a while to start up, not being able to dash into her A combo, and she's very floaty. I know most people play her as a long range spam character with the easy 2500 close range damage when the enemy gets nearby, but I prefer getting in close and being aggressive generally, which I tend to have difficulty with as Okuu.

Well it's either that, dialmash on wakeup, or godforbid try and escape your suwako-like corner pressure combos.

On a side note I play how I play, I'm not gonna improve. I've been on IRC for a year or more, and I probably haven't improved for a long while dispite the amount of games I play. I don't try to memorize combos or set up for spellscards. I'm a masher, through and through.

And I've had my butt handed to me by multiple high level tourney players, Which is why I can safely say that Duckator is indeed one of the best in NA.

ggs, it was hella distracting, I kept staring at it for most of the round and couldn't concentrate. I think it had something to do with it not returning properly at the end of the clone card because Myon was out od bounds or something. A good lot have moved to 1.10a already, but that is irrelevant as you can spectate between versions, you can even play between versions though this sometimes causes dropped frames.
