I particularly like it, also he has a distinctive and unique style, thing that most artists these days don't have.

ZUN contributes more to art in general with his style than most artists with their skill.

At least to me ZUN's art style for Touhou has two issues: the first is that all the characters seem...dunno flat. Not being sarcastic, its just a lack of shading in any form irks me...the second issue is that the facial structure, and lack of cheekbones or chins make the faces look wonky.

Rumor has it that ZUN saves all the character drawing for one night.

On that night, he gets himself completely plastered (no small feat for an alcoholic of his magnitude) sketches out and colors the new characters, codes them into the game, and leaves it at that.

ZUN's art grows on you, but I'm guessing this is how most people initially reacted:

"Shit, even I could draw better than this guy... Hell, you know what I think I will... and... hell, I'll write a doujin! Yeah! And she'll have a penis! Oh, this is an awesome idea! I can't believe I thought of it first! Comiket here I come!"

However, everyone thought like this, and that's how the fanbase was born.

ZUNart is adorable.
He once said he refused to draw like commercial artists because he disliked the generic, flavorless styles.
Even if his art is mediocre, it has soul, and that's something much better. I'm glad he continues to do what he likes.
Besides, Touhou would loose its charm if it wasn't for the adorable ZUNart.

I like ZUN's style. I think it's cute and fits the campiness of the games.

I also think Ryukishi's style is cute, but it kind of kills the atmosphere when he's trying make the story serious.
