I want to start playing visual novels but do not know where to begin.

What are some english/translated VNs you would recommend that I can play on the PC or even the ps2?

Pic somewhat unrelated

What would you like to read?

How about you just download some and run with them?

Do you want action/romance/comedy?

A romantic comedy or a romance/drama would actually be something I'd want

Shuffle is romance/comedy. Crescendo is romance/drama. Those are two of many. Check
http://vndb.org/g for more.
/jp/ doesn't really do well with visual novel requests since it gets a lot of them, if that helps it might be worth deleting the thread.

You want to start reading VN for what reason:

-You want to fit in places like /jp/.
-You genuinely enjoy reading and you think VN are worth trying.
-You think is a form of smart "anime"/manga.
-You like pornography/erotic literature and VN seems good.
-You want to be hardcore otaku and tell people you are.

Tell what one and I'll suggest something according to your needs.

thanks, this site looks useful.

If i had to choose something out of that list, it would probably be the second choice. I just really enjoy anime and this seems like a way to immerse myself more in the characters.

Then Clannad or "____ No naku koro ni series".

/jp/ seems lo love the 2º one more, if you want to talk about it here it would be the best chance, but Clannad is more stylish has better art, also newb friendly but /jp/ never talks about it because they relate it to /a/ and you know, elitism. Tomoyo is love.

I don't want to do this, but what would you have recommended for the fifth option?

F/S N.
Bible black.
And anything that got an anime adaptation so can spit in their faces that the VN was better.

The same thing a guy in my HS did with movies, every time someone said he liked a adaptation of a book he said that the book was better. He told someone that Karate Kid "the book" was better than the movie, that kind of guy.
