Fuck this gay Earth. My desktop computer just broke: 800 gigas of content gone. I'm sure I had at least 200 gigas of VNs, doujins, etc. that I haven't read yet.
I'm now stuck with my very old laptop and ubuntu ;_; (and not enough money for a new one)
I really want to cry.

Friendly advice: dig in your backlog.

this might be your last chance to become a normal

Unless the drive took a shit, you still have those files, at least.

Just take out your HDD and put it in your laptop.

Do not panic yet my friend... you could always go and get a USB drive enclosure for your Hard Disk... unless your HD is the one that gave up in life... then you can still pretty much access your treasured data... do not give up yet!

>> No.8046282

>>8046280
This. If you want you can even skip the enclosure and just buy the cables for, like, two bucks.

>>8046267
Pretty good odds the drives are sata, while the laptop uses ide/pata

Then it has to be a quite old/shitty laptop. Poor OP probably suffers with 256mb of RAM and a single core.

You could run ZSNES or probably even SNES9x for a start. What about the graphics card?

Shit, that ain't so bad. About the era 64bit procs were coming out for home systems, I was stuck on a 233mhz thinkpad. Thank god for Fallout and Starcraft.

Was wondering if that would be enough for lower-end Touhou games under Wine. Probably not, but more interrogation!

- What does glxinfo | head -n10 give you?
- What version of Ubuntu is it?
- Try out PrBoom or Chocolate Doom if you want more games.

Also you might want to look at Xubunutu 10.04 LTS or Debian Stable depending on your Ubuntu version.

OK try EoSD. I doubt it'll work well but there's no harm in trying right? Anything else you want to be able to do on there?

If it's not saying anything about missing a boot record and is just simply not doing anything, there's a chance your data is still safe. Ask over at >>>/g/ and see if they can help you.

>> No.8046408

>>8046383
Then it's most likely that your hard drive is still intact. It's probably the motherboard that's broken. Replacing it isn't all too expensive if you do it on your own.

I was in the same situation recently, just bought a new motherboard this monday after a couple of months relying on my old laptop only. Cost about 60€.
