On a somewhat related note, I really wish I could find more good remixes of her theme. Everyone is so fucking in love with Chinese Tea that Shanghai Alice of Meiji 17 seems to rarely get attention. Only like.. 3 remixes come to mind that I really liked. Grappler from Gensou Hardsound #1 and Tutti Sound's orchestral remixes of it

I suck at fighting games, and sucked an entire Mountain of Dicks in Hisotensoku with Meiling until I realized you can end her standard combo with DOWN+A or something that actually knocks the opponent down. Of course you can end with a lot better but I can never get the Shoryuken commands right with a keyboard.

It's a shame too, her "fuck you into the air" punches are one of the best things in the game to pull out.

Well yeah, Utsuho is better than pretty much everyone in UNL. The only characters that can really compete on an even basis, assuming equally skilled combatants, are Yukari and maybe Yuyuko. As I recall, Youmu, despite being a similarly god-tier character, gets her ass handed to her in this particular matchup

Her 236 fireballs went through Okuu's nuclear fireballs, and the constant pokes from 6C, 214B/C, and 22B/C fucked up Okuu cause she was so slow. At least, Patchy was who I played against Okuu.

I know, greentext, competitive UNL, etc. But seriously, the good Utsuhos just tore everyone to ribbons. Her good spell cards are just absolutely match changing. Subterranean Sun guarantees her a guard crush and at least one BNB's worth of damage, possibly 5k+ if she's any good. She only needs one or two combos worth of damage to put someone on the defensive because her damage is so devastating. And, seriously, she isn't that slow these days. Not for all the damage she has

I would've agreed with her being mid to low tier pre-1.10, but these days? Nah, man. Just.. nah. When tournyfag tier Yukaris are getting butchered by an Utsuho, you don't get to play the "she isn't very good vs decent players" card anymore

Over time I've realized that, all I really want for Meiling are some depictions of some goddamn competence. Not just "Meiling in badass pose" generic pics, but some situations where you can tell she's someone who knows what she's doing, and not just somebody who started hanging around the front gate and never left.

Also she barely has any related dialogue in IaMP, just Sakuya's usual "Don't slack off" bit, and Patchouli bitching about Marisa getting in for the umpteenth time even after it's been thoroughly established that Meiling can't stop her.

As for the BAiJR, yeah that pretty much did directly nod at her slacking off for naps. Still don't see how this clashes with what I said before.
