I'm getting close to the end of Forest, I... think? I just finished Za Geemu. Still don't quite all of what is going on, but I'm definitely feeling the progress after that long sequence of questioning the nature and significance of the forest.

In the mean time, I highly, highly recommend this game prematurely. The contents are fresh, exquisite, intriguing, and above all interesting. I've never played an eroge like forest before, really shines above the other liar-soft titles I've played (That being Sharnoth, Inganock, and Kusari-hime). Just hope I start getting on the same pace as the progression of the events.

Yeah, it's rare that the main heroine is my favorite but Serina was damn awesome.
Writer did it again with Akira in Yukinojou 2.
And Shouko who the writer consider the true heroine of the series is really adorable too, especially in 2.

Yes, so far (halfway through her route in Yukinojou 1), I'm really loving her. She definitely reminds me of Artemis Blue's Haru, I think the writer very likely was inspired by Serina in his earlier work because there are just so many similarities between them (which is a good thing cause the main reason I loved AB was Haru).
Pretty much all the other heroines seem rather lacklustre though -especially in comparison- (the kouhai, the sensei, the meganekko, the bokukko, the student council prez). I hope their routes aren't long...

The main problem I had with Yumiko is that it feels like she never really belonged to the group.
By the end of the common route Yuuji, Makina, Sachi, Amane and Michiru had a real group dynamic but Yumiko always stood outside of the circle.
Like you could remove her from the game and honestly you wouldn't lose much

Also, I've been looping Natsukage (and Yukiho from iDOLM@STER's cover of it) a lot recently, and it's been giving me the urge to play AIR. Such a beautiful track ;_;

I just finished the main storyline in Kagestu Tohya... and I'm slightly disappointed in the game. It just didn't have the same spark as Tsukihime. With no scene skip, the game becomes pretty tedious. It's especially true when you have all those long bits of Ren's past.

I still have 3 or 4 of the 'Ten Nights of Dream' to unlock but I don't really feel like it. The game makes everything a chore.

It's not bad, but it doesn't live up to Tsukihime.

Finally finished Higanbana. Honestly, I do think that it deserves more love despite Umineko's ill fate. I will be very surprised if the next episodes will be all about bullying, too, since R07 managed to develop the theme in every possible aspect. There are also quite a lot of intriguing details that may develop into an interesting story (for example, Hameln's reasons for moving into Higanbana's school). Waiting warmly for the next episodes.

My favorite chapter was probably the fifth one, since it has a good balance between the development of bullying theme and good old action and R07 mindfuckery. But I wish chapter four was longer, since Michiru and Sakunoshin are adorable.

Is it just me or does this author take pot shots at America even when it has nothing to do with it at all? I seem to recall an earlier line that was something like "he kept talking and talking about nothing, like an American politician." This is my first VN in Japanese, are they all like this?

Where do you guys buy your VNs? All of the good ones aren't carried by vendors anymore, and the stores that do carry VNs either don't deliver them outside of Japan, or only carry strictly adult VNs, which aren't what I'm interested in.

Feels bad man, and it's not like eBay has many sellers either.

Subahibi is hit or miss, very very much so. The Intro isn't like the core game at all, which features (light spoilers) cults, drugs, insanity, bullying, power relationships and an absolutely perfectly executed dynamic linking the characters, specifically the core protagonists together.

Generally speaking, if you have tolerance, or even like darker, more mature themed games, and are interested in a really uncensored psychological eroge, then you'll like Subahibi. If you prefer moege and slice of life games, you probably won't.

But that being said, Subarashiki Hibi is also, I dunno, it's kind of difficult to put into words, but it's a real "personal" game I think. How the player reacts to the games contents make up a huge portion of the experience. When shit hits the fan, do you sympathize with the lunatics that did it, or do you simply get disgusted and want it to stop? The game caters to both sides. Which protagonists do you agree with, what sacrifices are justified, what is and isn't okay? Playing the game, I found points like this outright tested the integrity of my own character. My apologies if this is poorly worded, like I said, putting it into words is kind of difficult. It would be a lot easier if I could be specific about the contents, but, spoilers. Looking back at the plot after playing it, nothing was too mind blowing, but the game's "moments" are amazing, how they communicate the plot is interesting, and the feeling of satisfaction after seeing the core problem resolved, the feeling that you've truly played a "complete" game, was really rewarding.

I'm emulating Realta Nua as we speak, currently at the beginning of HF.
It's definitely a different experience compared to the english script, I don't think I could ever go back to these kind of translations anyways.
But Nasu's writing isn't as difficult as I thought it would be, I had more problems with Dies Irae for something I finished recently.

Overall it's definitely much better to read in Japanese for those who can but I don't think it will push into my favorites even then, the problems I had with FSN are less apparent but still there
