I'd јust like tο interјect fοr a mοment. Wһat yοu're referring tο as /g/, is in fact, 4chan//g/, οr as I've recently taken tο calling it, 4chan plus /g/. /g/ is nοt an board untο itself, but ratһer anοtһer free cοmpοnent οf a fully functiοning 4chan system made useful by tһe 4chan boards, posters and administration cοmprising a full *chan as defined by 2ch.

Many cοmputer users run a mοdified versiοn οf tһe 4chan system every day, witһοut realizing it. Tһrοugһ a peculiar turn οf events, tһe versiοn οf 4chan wһicһ is widely used tοday is οften called "/g/", and many οf its users are nοt aware tһat it is basically tһe 4chan system, develοped by tһe 4chan Prοјect.

There really is a /g/, and tһese people are using it, but it is јust a part οf tһe system they use. /g/ is tһe board: tһe program in tһe system that discusses the desktops of other boards. The desktop threads are an essential part οf an imageboard, but useless by itself; it can οnly functiοn in tһe cοntext οf a cοmplete *chan. /g/ is nοrmally used in cοmbinatiοn witһ tһe 4chan network: tһe wһοle system is basically 4chan witһ /g/ added, οr 4chan//g/. All tһe sο-called "/g/" distributiοns are really distributiοns οf 4chan//g/.

SHUT UP

>> No.7971016

I can somewhat imagine, and sympathize with the situation at /g/ now. There must be hordes of uninformed people going around making exaggerated praises like "visionary genius". At least that's what's going on in my university.

Oh well, I guess the mass have a tendency to express their uneducated opinions vocally.

>> No.7971024

>>7970993
Completely wrong. Steve got rich bringing the personal computer to the masses. Steve Jobs made that happen in conjunction with Woz's engineering skills..and that, my friend, makes you a visionary genius.

(Notice I said first to the masses and not strictly the first PC).

"the masses" were the liberal arts and non-computer people who wouldn't have touched a computer with a 10 foot pole before the Mac came out. before the mac you had to be pretty geeky to use a computer. command line interfaces were pretty intimidating for the rank and file non-programmers.

the mac delivered a vision of computing that appealed to non-number crunchers - of computers that could display hundreds of fonts, and pictures, and movies (even if it was B&W postage stamp size), that let you design and create things without being a professional designer/architect/programmer.

THAT is the 'masses' who Apple brought computing to.

Argue all you want about overpricing, but how many PCs do you think would have been sold if a standard GUI interface (as popularized by the Mac) hadn't caught on and Windows hadn't raced (though it took them 10 years) to get close to catching up with their own GUI?

Steve Jobs deserves all the praise he gets. While he didn't invent the technology behind Apple's products, he certainly had a hand in making them something that anyone can use. And that's a good thing. Stallman may be a genius, but his inventions never gain traction because there simply aren't enough people willing to spend the time to build, complie, and maintain a PC around to have any significance.

Remember that not anyone can be a genius, but that a genius can come from anywhere.

>> No.7971039,6 [INTERNAL]

>>7971039,5

That's stupid though. That's like saying Einstein wasn't important because practically nobody really understands the theory of relativity. I don't care what the moronic average Joe might think of an invention, if it's amazing, it's amazing regardless of how convoluted and hard it might be to understand. I guess I'm not even trying to argue with you or anything, I'm just saying I'm tired of stupid people praising Jobs as the best inventor of all time when all he really did was make overpriced technology accessible to the point where even barely functional retards could use it easily.

>> No.7971039,7 [INTERNAL]

The only one that really deserves praise is Bill Gates. Steve Jobs didn't do shit. You're a fucking clown if you think that computers wouldn't have developed the same way without him.

>The only one that really deserves praise is Bill Gates.
You're an idiot. While it is true that both Steve and Bill are guilty of borrowing ideas, Bill Gates is nothing compared to Steve Jobs. Microsoft's business model can be summed up as the following, "Let's try everything and hope something sticks." At least with Apple they have standards. If Apple only cared about profit and public opinion they would have allowed Flash on the iPhone. Apple knows that companies can make better products when they specialize in certain areas. Microsoft wants to do everything. The thing that pisses me off the most about Microsoft is that they're willing to push an entire industry back a few years if it gives them an advantage (e.g., IE's HTML compliance and HD-DVD on Xbox to name a few). Apple's endorsement of HTML5's ever increasing potential is a perfect example of them looking forward.

Steve Jobs loves his products so much that he thinks of them as art. He doesn't want people opening, altering, or messing with his art. I also like it how he doesn't try to please everyone.

Don't speak in present tense while talking about the dead. It's always past tense.

>> No.7971039,13 [INTERNAL]

The only thing I know about Jobs is that he stole money from the guy who made the original Breakout game. So he can suck dicks in hell.

>> No.7971039,14 [INTERNAL]

Steve Jobs was not an inventor or innovator but he WAS a visionary. He might possibly be the most important visionary of our era. I suggest you look up the definition of that word. He was the man who envisioned a computer in every living room and pocket. He was the guy who envisioned computers being used by non-nerds. He even foresaw his own death. The blatant disrespect I see being thrown at him doesn't bother me because I know that historians will remember Steve Jobs as the man who ushered in the personal computing generation. Bill Gates will be forgotten and RMS will be remembered as an aspie who never achieved his goals because he spent his life talking and not walking.

The truth about Microsoft:

Here's another video that tells a lot about Microsoft's lack of vision:

I agree with >>7971039,10, businessmen are businessmen are businessmen. Jobs was good at marketing, that's all.
>>7971039,11, tell me this: which company was more successful, Microsoft or Apple?
Bill Gates is clearly the better businessman, and he did it without a faggot hipster cult of personality, which is always a plus.

>> No.7971039,16 [INTERNAL]

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were both businessmen who made a whole lot of money because they were good at doing business. Bill Gates was good at getting Microsoft operating systems everywhere so that it became the standard. Steve Jobs was good at marketing. His greatest insight into a computer business is that you can tell the pricing department to go fuck itself because a computer can be a luxury good that people are willing to shell out money for far beyond what utility suggests, like a car, and that way you can focus your efforts on design and marketing because people really like to own shiny things and they really like to own trendy things. That was his big insight. It made Apple successful as all fuck.
