You're a human, and at that an outsider, a weak outsider not of heroic blood. Youkai that don't just eat you would figure you're best off there among other humans.

Maybe you can visit Byakuren's temple sometimes. Though that won't be fun, since its a temple, study study and spiritual guidance or something like that, doesn't sound too interesting.

I think there's something about the Youkai Forest or Muenzuka that makes it the most ''popular'' starting point.

Either way, any youkai will fancy having a human snack after not eating one for so long, I suggest you run dearly for your life until you find Reimu's shrine, she'll then either escort you to the outside world or the human village if you wish to stay.

So far, it's mentioned that those outsiders who survive live in the human village.

Yes they are, games and books show that with plenitude. Remember that youkai also have super-senses and can smell Reimu's armpits from anywhere.

Humans have too short a lifespan for things like that, only when they're given the right position, and being a small outsider put in to a completely unknown element is very unlikely of achieving anything notable.

It's super-incredibly old, so it's artifact-quality already, and it's the chariot of the Sajuuk-khar, the Chosen One of He Whose Hand Shapes What Is, which makes it divine.

The first thing I do is level the Moriya Shrine, since they're the most likely ones to object to my supreme divinity.

Gensokyo seems to be a private wildlife reserve anyway. Restocked with humans to keep youkai going. Most new arrivals aren't by personal preference. Kanako+Crew came due to low faith outside, kyoko's race is almost extinct, etc
