I have no idea how to crack it - usual method (looking for temporary, unpacked file) doesn't work, as the game doesn't seem to create it in any usual locations (game folder, temp folder, windows search for BGI.exe yelds no results either). Process explorer shows that the game is running off original BGI.exe and no additional processes are spawned.

The main character has probably the biggest hard-on for Japan that I've ever seen... but otherwise it's pretty interesting. Quite informative at any rate! There's quite a bit of interesting stuff, and the ability to jump to google maps is neat. Dual language display is pretty cool. The album has additional info about all the places visited, and you can jump back to any of the scenes for any of the locations. There's not a lot of CG (no fanservice beyond the one scene for each girl), and there's some reuse of some backgrounds from old overdrive games. Most all of the music is probably reused from other games. You do in the end hook up with the girl you spend most time with, but all-ages version is sad. Still not bad for the price.

What exchange rate are you using? I tried .1 because it wouldn't let me go lower and that's the closest I could get to 120 yen = $1 and prices were just STUPID. Like $700 for lunch. They screwed up the currency thing off the start, it says 1 JPY = ?? USD, but it really wants 1 USD = ?? JPY. I used 76.7, I think that's the current value. Oddly it displays the input properly for Euro, but not for USD. It's the only glaring mistake that I saw so far but it's funny that it slipped past.

Well yeah, a $12 english only game release wouldn't be that feasible considering the amount of people that will probably buy it if they didn't cut some corners. Visiting Kyoto is kind of cheating since we got the tour of some of the destinations in Kira Kira. Other than this one, a couple places use backgrounds from Kira Kira, including their home and some of the random street shots. Most of the actual destinations were newly drawn unless they were visited before in other games.

Disappointed with Akira's route compared to Makoto's since I like tsunderes. Makoto's was more romantic, Akira's felt rushed.

It's also sort of a travel-to-Japan promotion aimed at all ages, so adult content would conflict with that.

Some people , like you, claim that lighter skin evolved because of lesser sunlight and colder climates as a form as adaptation. Well of course. Their Kara no Shoujo release lacked voices and was very expensive. Who would even consider buying it without a voice patch? Even less so on the first day?

This on the other hand is in another price range.
This also never had any voices to begin with.
So although you might have wanted voices and or ero, you don't feel cheated in the same way as with KnS.

It's also a relatively short, and perhaps most of all, a weird work. In combination with the lower price range, and the lower dedication required to read through the work, due to it being shorter and lighter, certainly made it appealing to all kinds /a/ people who don't care about physical copies and are stuck in the "steam era". People who don't know what to do with their money.

This doesn't suprise me at all.
I very much do believe that MG much so failed to provide KnS in a proper manner. If for an example, JAST would have taken on the title, untampered with, voices intact, and with a physical copy. I bet the sales would have been on a whole other level.
It's less the fault of the title, and more so the fault of how MG did it, or so I believe.

Koihime has an anime adaptation however, that was still running, or had just ended, when MG released the game.

Honestly, in what way would this game be any less embarresing to have than a game with some erotic content?
If anything this should be more embarresing, because at first glance this game probably looks worse than one with some erotic content in the middle.

I think you need to experience the brilliance of Japanese Vacation Simulator 2011 for yourself, Kud. There is really nothing quite like hearing a harp sound effect play and the screen turning all pink bubbly whenever the protag walks into an anime store.

This game is like if Overdrive and Mugenjohncel decided to work together to create some amazing Japanese travel guide VN. It's a masterpiece for all the wrong reasons and I loved every second of it.
