Just get some hair clippers, set the length to ~6 cm and start removing the worst bits. Then use lower lengths around where the hairline starts, and use occasional fast low-length movement here and there for it all not to seem too uniform.

You only have to do it once every two weeks and it makes it look much, much thinner. But if you do it wrong it can look stupid.

Haven't tried a microbead body yet.
I read that because of the way they sag, it distorts and won't look right if you try to have your pillow lying on her side beside you, because it doesn't stay firm vertically the way regular cotton filling does. But when lying on her back that's not an issue.
