It doesn't work like that. Most of /jp/ is bad with any kind of relationships, even within their own families, and the way that society works made us avoid it unless it's necessary. We aren't dedicating ourselves to waifus, games, music, anime and/or visual novels because they're a replacement to a man or a woman, it's because we don't even even feel the need for another person's company and affection. You can't even call it escapism, it's /jp/'s way of life and other people just need to accept it, just like we accept theirs.

tl;dr: just because it's the norm in society, it doesn't mean that everyone feels the need to follow it and gives it any importance.
