Back when I started learning english the pokemon games helped me a great deal to getting used to the language.

Now that I am starting learning japanese I wonder if there is some games with simple hiragana/kana and not a lot of Kanji for me to get more used to the language.

This is just a thought, but how about playing the pokemon games in Japanese? That's what they were originally in, and I"m pretty sure it meets your criteria.

Well, I do dabble a bit in spanish, but it's not my native language.

It's funny because the Japanese pokemon games meet your criteria.

This, even better: You can choose between Hiragana/Katakana-only and Kanji-mode (in the newest games).
The script changes a bit, though.

Play the games in Japanese.

For things that aren't games, Yotsuba is pretty easy to read.
