It feels more "young adult" than usual, the narrative is almost completely centered on the two child protagonists and the actual war is basically just in the background. It also stops midway through the journey with a "see you next book" at the end.
I wouldn't say it's -that- good, but the setting and how Darwinists use animals for warfare is lots of fun to read about.
