Honestly, I wasn't aiming for Cum Laude, I just majored in something I had a passion for and did it. My original country I wanted to teach in was someplace in Central Europe but I'm not a Brit so the places I talked too pretty much turned up their nose at me (Non EU/Canadian).
I think you could get into the JET program provided you show a genuine interest in the country (non wapanese) and demonstrate a mastery of English, or at least being able to tell the difference between you're and your. Anyhow, I'm back in Canada going to gradschool, pretty much did a year and said "This isn't for me". I felt more like an entertainer and I missed Alberta.
