Touhou has a shitload of characters all with some canon relationships sketched between them, but their characters and personalities are only sketched out, just the basics. The same applies to the setting itself.

In short it's an imagination jungle gym, enough structure to play on but open enough for you to run wild.

tl;dr daydream and make up crazy shit. Just don't actually play the games unless you like the warm glow of hate in your breast.
