>Modern miko are often seen at Shinto shrines, where they assist with shrine functions, perform ceremonial dances, offer omikuji fortune telling, and sell souvenirs. Kuly (2003:201) describes the contemporary miko, "A far distant relative of her premodern shamanic sister, she is most probably a university student collecting a modest wage in this part-time position."

How does it feel knowing mikos today are purely motivated by money /jp/?

Thankfully Gensokyou does not use the modern era as its basis for dress and behavior

>> No.7812870

They're women after all.

Part-time mikos can be cute too. In fact, they make up the vast majority of miko heroines in galge, thus representing the archetype better than traditional mikos.

Better a material motivation than evangelistic fervour.

Come to think of it, is there such thing as "part-time" nun?

>> No.7812879

>>7812876
No. One who is a nun has it form the core of their identity.

Not in the western world, but in Japan... I wouldn't be surprised if they existed.

My mother keeps telling me about her coworker who is a nun. The way it works is that she has a normal job, and the church takes all her money and gives her a tiny allowance. So technically you don't nun-duties fulltime or anything, but the lifestyle and obligations are fulltime.

It could be said of all religions.

Well, it's about 20 years i don't step foot in a church, but, here in Italy during Mass a fucking donation box guy pops out and starts going around searching for donations. (sometimes old and ugly nuns do that).
So i'd still prefer CUTE AND YOUNG part time workers in a nice dress to that shit (btw if here in italy the priests and nuns were all young mikos we would all get back to church asap)

Religion is always about money

>> No.7812976

So the modern miko is a honest and hardworking university student helping around a shrine in her spare time to ease the burden on her parents.

Yes, I think I can fall in love with such a girl.

Well, what other reason should they have? There are barely any people who see Shinto as real religion and those that do believe in a Shinto-buddhism mix that doesn't really force you to be very pious.

I would work as Miko if offered the chance though because I enjoy collecting spiritually important objects.

>> No.7817051

I wonder how much of a help it would be if you put down "miko" for work experience when you apply for graduate roles.

If you are a manager /jp/, would you hire an ex-miko graduate?

Depends if she is skilled at armpit sex.
If not, well then she lied.

A miko that cant give great pitjobs is not a miko.
