Dating sims don't really have much space for variation, I guess they were kind run into the ground after a while.
Also when eroge picked up most just went there instead. I tried playing a tokimemo recently but honestly after playing games where you fuck the girls stopping at a the first kiss/confession scene felt pretty unrewarding for all the stats grinding.
There's still the odd one here and there though.
