Here is a thought, /jp/ why not open a Shinto Shrine in the USA?

>> No.7780036

It would be firebombed by people in ten gallon white hoods.

>> No.7780056

lol shinto is state religion or at least was and would probably never be supported by americans. because of war, concentration camps (usa), emperor etc. probably alike question would be "why not build mosques for islam radicals."

>> No.7780058

Where would you find an american girl pure enough to be a shrine maiden?

>> No.7780062

>>7780058
You'd have to breed a pure strain and keep them isolated from American society.

>> No.7780065

>>7780056
>lol

>> No.7780067

>>7780056

But they're doing that too. And considering 9/11 was only a little while back and that doesn't seem to bother anybody, some little war 70 years ago should already be well forgotten by now.

I'm actually rather surprised that there aren't shinto shrines in United States. But there are buddhist temples, right?

>> No.7780074

Well, why don't you just open one?

>> No.7780075

The Japanese dont even have people who believe in it.

>> No.7780084

Shinto is basically just going to temples a few times a year and partecipating in festivals whenever there's one, the rest is all nationalistic fluff written on the fly.
It literally has no sense outside of Japan.

>> No.7780107

>>7780084

Pretty much.
You can believe in the pantheon if you like (for all the good it will do), but shinto as an institution isn't really a religion. It's more of an expression of Japanese cultural identity.

>> No.7780153

What about as a tourist attraction?

>> No.7780174

>>7780153
Tourists want to have sex, gorge themselves and pollute the places they visit. They don't care about some boring Shinto temple filled with old women and men.

>just going to temples a few times a year and partecipating in festivals whenever there's one

Sounds like it has a lot of potential anywhere in the world, actually.

>> No.7780190

>>7780174

So make them young women.

>> No.7780191

>>7780190
How do you propose we go about doing that?

>> No.7780219

>>7780181

It doesn't count if people don't get someone to blame for their stupidity.

Anywhere else in the world going to community festivals and occurences together isn't thought enough to be a religion so no, not really.

>> No.7786467

Japanese "religion" is Japanese culture. They usually wouldn't call themselves Shinto believers. At the same time there actually are many fanatical religions and new religions in Japan who are more like what westerners would think religion is. This monk explains it better than I've ever seen.

Touhou is just a plan to introduce young americans to shinto.Just look at how many other religions have appeared in the recent games, all of them defeated by Reimu

Hubbub, people need to see and accept the excellence of the Tao!

>> No.7786501

Kanako/Suwako is shinto and yet Reimu defeated them anyways

>> No.7786521

Reimu is also Shintoist.
The concepts of Shintoism won't be accepted in the US, I think. They basically worship whatever they want, as long as it has a "history". A dog, a cat, some hero of a pile of poo is okay. Youkai and folktale are also important. Building one temple in the US will just be a waste. Who're you worshiping? Some weedy armpit Miko and a vengeful ghost which are fictionally created by an alcoholic?

We already do.

I see neither a problem nor a difference from any other religion in existence.

>> No.7786574

if we can't find any american girls pure enough, are there any traps among us who could be mikos?

This just made me think about the relationship between animism and shinto, 2D virtual characters and memetics.
