What's /jp/'s favourite tea? Do you like Japanese teas? Are you drinking some now?

I'm drinking peach-flavored black tea now, it's pretty good, but I brewed it too long so it ended up a bit bitter.

>> No.7768241

I like all kinds of teas. I prefer Japanese green tea to chinese green tea because it has a much lighter, sweet flavor. I usually drink sushi bar style green tea. Also, brewing teas too long generally isn't what makes them bitter, it could be you had the water a bit too hot.

>> No.7768240

I only drink Dr. Pepper.

Sorry Reimu, you just don't compare.

Might be! Thanks for the tip. The package recommends a temperature of 97 celsius (207 F), and I let the water cool a bit after boiling, so I thought it'd be okay. I have some bad habits apparently, as my first brews are often somewhat bitter...

My favourite from Japanese teas is genmaicha. That ample, soft flavour is especially great on a cold winter's day. I also once got to taste one that tasted like seaweed, which was pretty interesting, but I don't think I'd drink that on a daily basis.

At least where I live, there are some small, nice shops that specialise in tea. There's an entire cupboard full of tea that no one has touched in ages until I started drinking tea a few months ago, and since I'm the only one here that drinks tea my supply isn't going to run out anytime soon. A few years ago I used to put honey/cream/milk/brown sugar/cinnamon in chai or earl grey, all the time, but then I started to just have the chai by itself, steeped as strong as could possibly get it to be, since I found that I really like the raw spiciness more than anything else. When I started to make huge amounts of tea daily it got to be too much of a pain in the ass to adds things to it too, not to mention I can't stand letting a sweetened/creamed tea get cold, but with a regular tea I don't mind it being room-temp. Or on a hot day I'll just put the tea in the fridge for iced tea. Even though it seems most people sweeten up their iced tea I don't, namely because sugars dry out your mouth and that kind of defeats the purpose of it being quenching.

Some types of tea (such as green or chamomile) I don't ever put anything in. I've also experimented with putting honey/milk in plum tea as well, but I find nothing really beats earl grey, english/irish breakfast or chai for fixing up English-style.

I recently sent for an order from Hojo teas, which I had heard an awful lot about. While needing to email the man was a touch more than daunting, I'll say the quality makes it well worth the effort. His prices are alright, maybe not for europe though as it ships from Nippon.

But comparing simular blends from him against my Teavanna shipment, well teavanna was simply blown away. They hardly seemed a step up from bagged, and I was having difficulty in justifying farther purchases. But after this, I see how much quality truly matters in tea.

My order was a very aged Oolong which had a wonderful slightly, ever so slightly sweet taste to it, that I prize in an Oolong tea. A Pu-reh which was very sweet, it is definitely a desert tea, the taste is heavenly, and I will be buying more (lao Hei Zhai Raw Pu-reh for the curious).
A Lapsong sochong blend which lacked the "bite" I noticed in several bagged varieties. Much smoother than I had become accustomed to in a lapsong blend, but also a much "deeper" flavor I again will be buying more. A Formosa blend, which was just a touch underwhelming, I'll try again in a different clay with better water and see what happens. It did taste rather well, but I feel like I didn't get all of the flavor unlocked from the leaves.

As is pretty obvious, I'm mostly a black drinker, and do enjoy the occasional Oolong with food.

The downside is that it may be really agressive on someone's throat to drink so much lemon and you neck starts actually hurting because of it. I got used to this, though.

If you don't want to drink it that much, cut it in slices. Literarilly cut off the cap and put one or two slices in it. It's not freshly squeezed.

You can also squeeze it off the juice and keep the juice in the fridge but then it might not taste the same. Sometimes it still feels fresh after two days, though.

Also never put the juice/slice in the tea before the tea diffused, it seems to make the tea quality considerably worse.
