Alright. So Comiket is over, and Big Bang Beat Revolve is still nowhere to be seen.
As they say, patience is key. Should appear sometime, and the game might be prone to patching either way.

However, with the event over, and with nico douga being full of gameplay videos, it is clear that lots of Japanese got it.

The demo; for anyone who might want to catch a glimpse of it.

I kind of liked Kunagi's old voice set better. This one seems to have lost a bit of its personality/fierceness. It's a pity when producers insist on making new voices(Blazblue... Baiken in GG), although I might be the only one that feels that way.

I must say I was worried at first. Aja, have never made a fighting game before after all.

But I must say, the latest demo certainly feels like a fighting game, and it still has a feel of BBB to it. If they continue to patch it as they are supposed to, and don't fuck it up as the original developers did, I could see this grow to become great.

I don't really know anythjing about the full game though. But from what I have found, it seems as if there are some minor bugs around, but it doesn't look that bad.

I always loved her in Daibanchou, and found it to be a shame she couldn't do better on the romancing front.

>What the hell happened to the B dashes?
Ryouga have them.

I agree that they were a great feature in BBB1, and contributed alot to the game's unique feel.
But the later patches really threw that thing way out of hand, and by the final version of the game the B-Dashes were among the most broken feature in the game, a game that had grown to become exceedingly broken.
I don't hold it against Aya trying a new approach.

But that said. Ryouga as mentioned still have them.
Otherwise, the D button now seems to be a lot more character specific.
Senna can heal herself with it.
Kunagi can charge power with it.
Ryouga cancels with it.
Burai does his dodge things with it.
And so on.

>>7746683
Any idea what Ren does with it? I'm not noticing a single thing. Without jH groundbounce or 623M~B-dash pickups I really don't know how I'm supposed to get appreciable damage anymore.
Cinderblock being an overhead is pretty good seeing as how I can actually combo off of it, but I seem to cap off at like 2k.

>> No.7746707

>>7746682
>So far Burai and Senna have infinites
While a problem, indeed. The mechanics still seem to make it not as awful as it could be.
Burai's infinite in particular, some time after the 1600 mark he simply keeps doing 1 damage with those punches. Overall, the combo is quite weak, though you can of course stall with it if you are already in the lead and aim for a time over, which would be rather awful.

But I trust them to fix that in the next patch.

And Ryouga has easy 5k combos because of it while most other characters are topping off around 2.5k-3k.

The infinites will probably be removed, but its harder to approach a plain ridiculous mechanic.

>> No.7746748

Some kind of burst mechanic could "fix" all those infinites.
Especially if being beaten up for one damage all the time could give you power usable for bursting.

But coming up with ways to cope with infinites is probably the wrong way to go considering how one should beat infinites altogether as one doesn't want them in the first place.

>> No.7746752

>>7746720
Things like that are easy to fix. Just add a deadfall when scaling >99% or whatever. The bigger problem is Rouga's absurdly high damage, especially with moronic things that really shouldn't combo, even with his cancels.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHuHS8nV34k

That's also not too hard to nerf either though without massively changing his game. Just change that super to fill the bar instead of giving unlimited and add some scaling.

>> No.7746770

Well for defensive abilities, this game has guard cancels and it does have a burst mechanic, though I don't know how much meter gain you would get off of something like burai's inifinite or rouga's dash cancel madness. I guess just use that meter wisely

>> No.7746777

>>7746752
Ah, that combo. Yeah, such things are really no good.
Unlike the other comboes, this one is actually fatal.

Though, while a considerable error, you need a maxed out meter to start the combo. Though, yeah.
But I still like the feel of the game, even if it needs some work in its early stages.

>> No.7746803

What Examu and Arc System Works does against stuff like this, is how they prorate the hitstun from the attacks in a combo.

Being hit by Heavy Attack X, might stun someone for 0.6 seconds. If, you use Heavy Attack X again in the same combo though, the hit stun might perhaps only be 0.4 seconds, and once again after that i could be 0.2 or something.
Efficiently meaning that eventually, the opponent have gets the oppurtunity to jump out.

And of course, with the right settings this mechanic can be subtle, if needed.
Though, I am not sure how it could affect the feel of this game. Supposedly, for the better, I guess.

Generally I don't think Rance is as suitable for a fighter, even disregarding the varying power levels of that setting.

Daibanchou was played out by super powered people, brawling things out. And it was for most part also played out locally and not over large regions, even though it did its share of that as well.

But you know, facts like how all the characters in Daibanchou are in one way or another related to the same conflict, for a fighting game I really do believe that's a lot better than people who at one time or another might have met Rance or Sill.

Come on, its not that bad. Still feels a lot more fluid than what capcom might pull off, and that StreetfighterXTekken thing almost looks like a joke.

I bet Aja simply didn't want to miss Summer Comiket, considering it being much bigger and more popular than winter comiket which would most likely be the next set release date.
07th expansion have/are updating Ougon monthly, that's worthy of respect in a sense.

I don't think its fully fair to go with the attitude that it is not worth anything just because of it being released a bit premature. Given, they actually do update it reguarly that is.
The game itself is only roughly $20-$25 after all, and it really isn't like buying say, SF4 or MvC3 where you buy the game, without ever getting any updates, and is then expected to buy slightly updated version for full retail price 6 months afterwards.
Then again, might not be fair comparing them to Capcom, considering how Capcom is basically the worst offender in the field, and overall not that great.

don't get me wrong, i like the game.

what i meant is that asking your customers to "trust you" to update the game to something worth playing is not really acceptable business practice. regardless of whether it isn't "that bad" as framework for a game, the chance that this game would last if something were to happen to aja right now is nigh 0. people buying the game for what it's going to be would then have not received the product they intended to pay money for(regardless of whether that's foolish on their part or not).

if you disagree and think this is acceptable business practice, i don't really have anything left to say. granted, none of this matters if it becomes a complete game, and doujins are a somewhat different beast than professional work.

in any case, i'm not really so upset about it as i am surprised that they released the game without the netplay and characters they'd been advertising. it doesn't seem unlikely that they wanted to make summer comiket, but i'd also have to postulate that by releasing the game in the state it's in that they're more likely to decrease overall sales(via negative word of mouth(no netplay, infinites, etc; information like that tends to stick around for awhile and influence people even after patches)) than increase them. it seems like something they'd only do if they had a short-term necessity.

tl;dr i didn't mean it was awful. i meant that they've advertised a lot more than they've put in, and i find that surprising both because promises are bad business and because they're creating negative information about the game("character X is not in," "no netplay," "infinites," etc.), killing their ability to capitalize on first impressions(no pun intended) and launch word of mouth.

so, it seems like either a very nearsighted decision or one made out of necessity.

mb may share some cliches like vampires, but i don't think the spirit of the series or its characters are really the same at all. i don't think it would mesh well with blazblue. guilty gear might be interesting. i think SF would be awkward.

Got to come clean, I wasn't too hyped during the production phase, but now that it's out I'm just as itching to play the game as much as you guys.

I'd say it's "close to impossible" given the original game's age and the fact the Dai series has only had "Spiritual sequels". But believe me, I know I've dreamt of it at least once after experiencing Daiteikoku.

Gundan is a title given to someone in service to a force or army.
I thought "Gundan" referenced the whole group, considering they are basically some kind of mini vigilante group. Isn't that relatively straight forward?
Erika is Miyazato Erika, Eri of the Chain. And together they are Miyazato Gundan, their little group of vigilante troops.

For perhaps obvious reasons I do like the heroines. And although she isn't my favorite, the game doesn't have a ninja like practically every fighter has nowadays, and Sae could solve that. But even among the heroines I would rather have Kaen.

But to be realistic and not go for national stage characters.
I believe I would say Nanana and Aya.
But really, they should make an exception and simply let in Kuga Kyouichirou already, despite being introduced a bit late. He is basically the best friend of Protagonist and have deep relations with most of the main cast. Not to be speaking of how his shadow shit easily works in a fighting game.
So if I have to choose one, I might say him.

So, there's no fighter thread on /v/ right now and I've been coming here so I can wait for this game to come out, so basically I'm going to discuss it with you all here.

I was the one who uploaded that Rouga video that got posted here earlier (sorry about it not being viewable any more, I moved it to my new youtube account) and some of you were saying who ridiculous it is. It's actually not that bad, because that combo is only possible with Big Bang mode. Everyone is capable of big damage in Big Bang mode because it gives you access to your level 3 super, it's not uncommon for a character to do 60-75%. Also, after you use Big Bang mode, you lose the ability to use meter. It becomes a matchup thing against Rouga that you save your meter and if he tries to go for the Can Can, you burst and run away for 10 seconds, and then not only does Rouga lose his best combo, he also can't burst, alpha counter, or use supers.

Outside of Big Bang mode, his boosts aren't very good at all. They don't give you any worthwhile extra damage and their main use is to cancel normals to apply pressure and be safe. It's not as broken as it sounds.

I'm pretty late in replying to that, but a lot of the thread dove into things not so related to gameplay mechanics and discussion, and I mostly care for how the game plays.

>> No.7754559

>>7754509
i don't recall many people complaining about the combo, and the real strength of the combo will be determined by how easy it is to open up an opportunity to go into the combo. it's obviously not godly to anyone with experience in fighters, especially since it more or less appears to be a game-ender since it uses all of your resources including BBM.

but i don't really care about that much unless there's an interesting gameplay mechanic to discuss. i just want to request that you don't lead anyone else from /v/ here. you seem fine so no offense meant to you, but from the few occasions i've been there, reading threads on /v/ gives me a headache.

>> No.7754594

>>7754559
Trust me, I know how you feel and I don't intend on doing that. As for how easy it is to open someone up, I personally think Rouga is going to have some trouble a bit in that regard. He doesn't have a good way to cross up (no normal crosses up and he doesn't have good side change setups) and his overhead is pretty slow, so someone who knows how to block isn't going to have that hard of a time with him.

However, once he lands a hit he can go right into it since all he has to do is 5A 5B 5C > Can Can. It's probably going to be his best combo, but I don't think landing it every match or even often is going to be possible.

The timing is actually really strict. I don't see that combo being possible online at all. I know because the youtube video was just awesome that it looks like I did it without even trying, but it took me half an hour to get the timing down, and even then I rushed the level 3 super because I was afraid of messing up. I could have probably got in one or two more hits before the super.

And on the main website they have full move lists for the characters and Ren does not have a D action. I don't know how more confirmed that can get.

>>7754635
If I had to take a guess I'd say it's not his damage that makes up for it, although his damage is pretty decent (especially with that Hyper Viper Beam nonsense he can do), but rather his projectiles and wakeup pressure make up for it. His projectiles are really good, and his molotov cocktail basically give him free pressure to do whatever he wants if he knocks you down. He seems heavily setup based, but his setups look very scary to me. If he has really good ways to get in and score knock downs, he'll be a major threat.

Actually, you get quite a bit. Unlike Big Bang Beat 1, you actually build meter like you do in other fighting games by landing hits on your opponent, but the gem system is still in place. It only takes about 1 good combo to get around 2 and a half meters. Unless you're ending every combo in a super, you're pretty much going to hit 3 in no time.

The thing is though, the infinites in this game will never kill someone EVER in a match, so the majority of competitive players would do an infinite to build meter and then do a reset to get unscaled damage. It would be just like MvC2, a game with a similar situation. There are probably hundreds of infinites in that game, but they don't do enough damage to kill anyone before time runs out in a match, so no one ever does an infinite until time over.

Comparing it to fireball "spam" isn't really the same thing, either. You can get around fireballs and punish your opponent for throwing them carelessly, you're not going to get past an infinite. Luckily, Aja was wise enough to include a burst system so that if someone DID try to get a victory via time over infinite you could still get out of it and win, because infinites do very little damage in this game (In fact, every hit in an infinite past the 35th, regardless of what the start of the combo was, will only do 1 point of damage. Some start getting that low way before the 35th hit too.).

There's a few things that show this game was rushed for Summer Comiket since it's the more popular one, like the infinites, lack of netplay, and the patch coming around December, but as it is now the game is not THAT bad. It needs a bit of polishing, but it's certainly not the worst doujin fighter ever made. I actually like this game more than big name titles, it's quite solid and very fun.

but i really think you should save statements about the game's quality until awhile after release unless you have specific arguments(no offense, i don't mean i disagree with you, it's simply a matter of the fact that the game will develop in an unknown direction after its release, both in terms of how the game is played and patches).

>> No.7763530

>>7763453
>unless you have specific arguments
My specific arguments are that the damage scaling is one of the better forms of such a system that I've seen, the juggle mechanics are open ended without being ridiculous, infinites in the game can be fixed as simply making the 3rd repetition of a special causing the opponent to flip out to match the ground bounce rule and I expect this in the December patch, the game has a good mix of offensive and defensive mechanics to help both play styles, and the meter system seems well thought out.

From looking strictly at the engine and the very foundation of the game, it was designed fairly solid. Now of course when the full version is uploaded and more people are playing it, there's going to be the inevitable balance formation and impending tier lists, but that's another issue entirely. If one character dominates the entire roster it just means that one specific character is too good or the other characters are not good enough. One character can dominate everyone and the engine can still be good.

Sure it might be one of the most crude fighters I have seen in a while, so yeah.
But they still improved the game, alot, with all of those patches each month since the release. But the above statement still holds true, it is a notably crude game.

But it still turns out it is a suprisingly good test of reaction, spacing and reading etc, for all its worth. Its crude, but they managed to make something that plays out as a "game". As the above video shows, they are fighting throughout the whole games, and the game keeps a level of tension up throughout the matches. But well, that video is a relatively good example of high level Ougon play.
Despite how you messure its quality, it still suprised me by being a lot better than I first thought it would be, and compared to my first impression of it.

Are you supposed to let the client update or something?
I wonder if they will deny pirates from playing online later or something. Then again, I doubt it for several reasons.
One being, that they would have had to put down time and effort for writing shit like that into their code.
And another reason being, that well, with the amount of copies printed (which I assume aren't on a commercial company's scale), their game wouldn't reach nearly the same kind of audience.

>> No.7767642

>>7767618
There was 2 things that really bugged me about OMK:

1) Outside of 3 characters, ever combo was A B C dash A B C activate A B C super. No one could do anything else because the engine simply didn't allow it, besides those said 3 characters who had very extended combos and of course ended up being better than everyone else.

2) The only character I ever cared about in that game was Battler, and he sucks. He's slow as hell, doesn't have shit for combos, does weak damage, he just sucks. It's bad enough I'm forced to pick another character I don't care about to play a team, but the one character I DID want to play as was terrible.

It wasn't the worst game I've ever played, but it just wasn't very good. It was boring, gameplay felt generic, and overall just kind of seemed unfinished. I will say though, the animation was very nice, surprisingly good in fact. I would love if they made it better, but as it is now I just can't play it.

>> No.7767666

>>7767642
I doubt you really care and I don't want to hijack this too much, but like someone else said the game has improved a lot. Characters have actual combos now with some minor jump cancelling. Battler is actually one of the better characters in the game. And the game has evolved past the whole Beatrice meta spam idiocy.

Its still pretty rough but people should probably give OMK2 a shot. The original melty was shit too, but I guess it wasn't as limited as OMK first was.

fighters being pirated probably has its benefits. more people playing means a stronger community, which keeps people playing and makes them try to get other people playing, which in all likelyhood will translate to more purchases than if the game had flopped because there was no community/not enough people playing.

Yeah, battler was pretty bad. I felt they must have been going for a Shoto-ish character with him, but his fireballs aren't particularly scary, and there's too much startup and not enough recovery.

Though I think the game needs both system and character improvements. The engine just doesn't allow you to be creative at all. The air juggle system is bad, the basic combo system is bad, character variety needs some work too. And what's with a character like Ronove? He can burst out of blockstun and hit you. And it's a pretty big hassle to try and bait that shit out, it forces you to play a completely different game.

And i'm not a fan of the mixup either. Rather, the lack of any. There's hardly any crossup or grab mixup, and your High/Low game with 90% of the cast is basically where will you attack touch during your string, which can be blocked on reaction, and considering the lack of any actual blockstrings you either tag out eventually to continue pressure or you don't and give up your momentum. There's no reward for rushdown, instead most of your damage is dealt from punishing whiffed attacks or counterhits. Promotes too much turtling.

Here's to hoping the sequel does a better job. I actually do have hopes it will.

Guess I should post my lab findings and maybe get some discussion going.
Best I've been able to pull off so far without my precious D-dashes is 5B2B 5C2C 214A 5B 5C 22A, ~2.5k and +2 seals midscreen or in the corner. I understand that's somewhat below average damage wise for BBBR, and it feels pretty suboptimal, but it's all I've managed to scrape up and 2 seals is fine I guess. In the corner or midscreen you can tack on any C special if you've got the seals, but in the corner especially you can add 236C 623D for ~3.2k and +2 seals. Also you can throw in 214C before the super if you've got the seals to spare for a kill or style points. You gain enough meter from the combo itself to do the super for free essentially, gaining a little bit of meter as a whole.
6B is a low, 22C is an overhead.
All I've found so far.

As I expected from the moment I noticed just how frequently you could get them out in the demo, Erika's assists are naturally notably nerfed in terms of their cool down in between uses.
Though her attacks also makes the enemy drop noticably more B-Stones as opposed to not that much at all before, so they took care of that as well.

The grab is super annoying because it leads into huge damage, is fast, dashes forward, and can grab you in the air or the ground. At least his reversal is easy to bait out.

Allow me to remind you that in the victorian age suicide poems and lusting after dying women was common.
