>> No.7740774

>>7740752

Okay, time to explain a little bit what does what. I've been playing this game since yesterday and I'm on stage 9 in story.

Basically, if you haven't realized yet, this game works exactly like Age of Empires. You have your 3 collectable resources: Beer/Mushrooms/Faith (Would be like Food/Wood/Stone) and a 4th one that increases by creating units, building things and killing enemies. We will call this resource points.
Marisa, Reimu and Suika would be your hero style units. They have abilities later in the game after you upgrade your town to the next difficulty. Marisa gains Master spark, Reimu gains some protection field and I don't know what Suika gets.
By upgrading difficulty, you have to go your townhall and click on the boton below the villager one. It would go from Normal to Hard to then Lunatic.
Upgrading your difficulty unlocks new units, upgrades for your hero units, upgrade for your normal units and, in lunatic tier, you get to create an ultimate unit. I'm still trying to figure out how they work, but so far it seems to be quite interesting.

If I missed something to explain, just tell me and I will do what I can.

Would appreciate it if folks would share what they've learned about the factions so far (specifically what each hero's abilities do or other oddities about the faction).

Hakurei: Reimu makes a barrier that increases pierce armor. Also she gives your barriers armor like your walls have. Marisa has Master Spark which murderizes units and buildings. Suika makes it so you can build minisuikas from your breweries.

SDM: Remilia chucks gungnir for damage in a line. Sakuya gets infinite movespeed (buggy). Flandre does AOE in a half circle in front of her, she's a terrifying glass cannon.

Netherworld: Youmu makes Myon spin and shoot bullets, while she can still move. Yukari can build gaps that work exactly like GLA tunnels. Yuyuko unknown.

Eientei: Eirin has some AOE heal I think. Kaguya can barely move but she massacres anything that gets in range. Reisen unknown.

Muenzuka: Builds flowerbeds instead of houses, you can move over them. Komachi gets an AOE slow. Medicine gets AOE poison. Shikieiki gets a laser.

Alice: Really weird. Doesn't build houses, upgrades population at library instead. Her units seem to be different from the standard ones too.

You select the "vs network" option in the main screen.

In the network screen;
To host you select the left option.
In here you assign a playable port (10800, 7700) or just leave it as the default port, or whatever else works.

To join, you select the right option.
Here you need the IP number of the host, and the port they choosed.

Were this to be done, a connection were to be established.

This is what I've found out about the three fairies so far.

-No houses, you start straight at 200 unit limit
-No defensive structures, that means no walls or towers of any sort.
-The three fairies level together with the normal units instead of having their own upgrades, each fairy is tied to a different color in that aspect.
-The three fairies have passive abilities only. Star has a huge field of vision compared to others, Luna and Sunny make nearby buildings and units invisibly, respectively.

I fiddled a bit with the netplay in LAN, some may find this of interest if they have similar trouble.

Connecting to a LAN address doesn't work for me at all, it doesn't even try to make a connection for some reason, the button just goes passive for a few seconds. However, the field also accepts domain names and for LAN also computer names work (you can find yours out by going to control panel -> system -> computer name). In this case the input would be simply computername:portnumber.

Also, for internet multiplayer, note that this game uses TCP protocol instead of UDP that's used by Hisoutensoku for example, so make sure you're using TCP when forwarding ports.

Yeah, gg.
Though may I ask. How is that gray/dark book you can unlock in Lunatic?
I researched it, or whatever it was I did the first time I thought I built it. Though, you destroyed my corner town hall before I could finish it. So close...

Also, my apologies if some find that whole rebuild thing tedious, it can, supposedly drag things on a bit.
Though if the game wasn't in 20fps I don't think that kind of thing would have been as much of a problem.

And, well, in spite of it having the potential to be tedious. To smite an opponent down without any workers escaping, is a bit of an art in itself, that, and finding remote outposts. Though, depending on things, they can drag on even so.

Does it force the game to 20 FPS in multiplayer?

>Does it force the game to 20 FPS in multiplayer?
No. Played wtih my friend the moment I got the game at release.
Hosted, and set things up without modifying anything, had the delay set to "3".
I suppose I should have set things to 4 had I wanted the speed to be perfect.
But with 3, we still got 40fps.

The core of it, is basically that if a player pings above the delay time, the game "pauses" for a short moment to keep up. With the delay, the action itself is merely delayed, but it doesn't affect the overall game speed in the same manner.

Of course, if the connection is too bad, the delay number doesn't really matter in the same way, in a case where a good connection can't even theoretically be established.

tl;dr
Rule of thumb: If the game is slow, the delay needs to be higher. If the game doesn't go faster even though you increased the delay, lower it until it "breaks even".
If the delay is still bearable, everything is fine. If the delay is large enough to truly disrupt the game, then all players have their reasons to be sad.

Here is something fun I found out for the Undergroud team:

Building a fountain gives you 1 zombie fairy for each fountain you have when you research a new tech. Note that this is NOT limited to the maximum amount of units.

So if you build 20, 30 or even more of them and then research every single tech you'll get easily over 200 units in a few seconds.

Enemy is about to destroy you? Use it to get a quick 200+ units to defend your base. It's also useful for attacking, the fairies can easily destroy a town center if a player has just used most of his units to attack someone else.

Just try to play with others, not too far from eachothers' relative positions, and try to not set the delay too low.
You should be able to get 40fps+ without too much trouble even when playing with strangers from afar, I estimate.

But really, the game is quite playable even with low fps, it just, takes time in a game that can already take a while. But 40fps+ is perfectly fine.
And if you aren't too far from eachother, such as WC with WC, EC with EC, EU with EU etc, you might even get full fps.

The blue books have the slowest projectile speed so it's possible to avoid or reduce damage with good micro. The green books are better against units because they do splash damage to everything in a line, while red books are purely for wrecking buildings. The blue books are the in-between.

Books do seem like they kill fairies too easily for cost though. Their one downside would be their long build time.

Few tips:

Right at the start, upgrade to the next difficulty, have a villager build a few houses.
Upgrade Marisa to Normal when you can, her Master spark will clear up a huge chunk of enemies at the same time.
There's a big pile of beer to the west of your base, take advantage of it.
Build 2 of each kind of spell circles, and keep spamming those units and upgrade them. Have a few of them to defend your base.
When you reach Hard, start using those books with your army, the red ones will be quite useful for taking down the strongholds in no time.
Have at least 50 to 70 villagers working all time, you will need those resources for the entire stage.

That's all I can tell you, this is what I did and I finished the stage in 45 minutes or so.

Just spam blue troops to kill them, and green troops to protect the barrier. They work like in the same motion as the Command and conquer stealth system. If you attack, you become unstealthed, if the enemy is close to you, same thing. If you don't attack or the enemy is close to you, you will remain stealthed.

I wonder if the author of the game would release patches for some small game balance related things or other small features.

After playing a few netplay matches I'd say that there are a few things that should be added or changed.

The 3 fairies have a serious (and probably unintended) disadvantage if you play with the town centers rule. Since they have no walls you can rush their original town center very quickly. Stealth doesn't really help because they only get this at normal, when most players have scouted your base with their hero unit already.

You could easily fix this by giving them the ability to survive as long as they have ANY(original or not) town center left. This could even be a reference to the story in OSP where the 3 fairies move to another house.

If there is anyone able and willing to translate this and get in touch with the author then you'd do me a great favor.

The problem is that stealth is removed if you are close enough. So if someone would see worker fuzzballs they would just scout around the area until they find the towncenter and just rush that spot later like they can do now.

Another solution would be to let them rebuild their town center somewhere else.

That's the major disadvantage when playing town hall and fairies I guess.

But then again that can happen to anyone when the game drags on to a very late game. Walls become useless around hard and completely useless around Lunatic. Since any huge army will down a single wall within 2-3 seconds and just pour in.

Well what I'm trying to say is, When the game enters the players start entering Hard mode, you can't be dependent on your walls but your army

>> No.7751464

I looked into how the brewery upgrades effect sake collection rate.

Collection rates per minute for easy, normal, hard and lunatic were 20, 21, 29, 40. Compare to the in-field nodes which were 30, 30, 30, 40.

This seems to conflict with the in-game tool tips for the upgrades. They state that the rates are improved by 0.2, 0.3, and 0.3. However, given the above numbers, it seems closer to 0.15, 0.80, 0.55.

To make things worse for the fairies, it seems Luna's ability is pretty much useless. Even if the buildings are camouflaged, the enemy can attack them and even select them to see what building it is, and even if they don't notice anything, the dot representing that building will appear on their map when it's in their field of view even when it's hidden. It doesn't help that usually the ground will be a different color under buildings, a perfect brown rectangle shape in the middle of a grassy area is quite suspicious to say the least. Oh, and the town center usually reveals itself by shooting at enemies as well.

>>7751477

Also consider that the fairies don't get books for late game.

Changing that rule should act more of a setting to decide how long and complex the matches become, instead of making certain factions stronger or weaker.

Maybe they should add another option: All town centers count as original and have to be destroyed. That would pretty much solve that problem without forcing matches to become incredibly long and annoying.

Awesome skills, huh? Guess the fairies are better at rushing then. No need for houses, so they can use the initial shrooms to make the Red circle and start pouring out red troops. 10 workers collecting beer gives a sufficient income for one or two red circles. You can keep someone busy hiding inside their town center and reviving their hero units while preventing them from collecting resources and upgrading/trainning units, until you have army and tech advantage to kill him.

>> No.7751568

You don't need Luna for that, works fine even if you just build it in the fog of war around the base. There is a variation of this using Yukaris gap which is much easier and less risky because you can move troops quickly around the map.

Apparently, Shou can gather resources. She won't appear as an active/idle worker, though, so keep an eye on her. Also, she can build the only one tower Byakuren's faction can build. It's pretty strong when compared to normal towers, and since you can only have one for 100 faith, it's great for defending your town center.

If you build them early enough they can help you stop enemies from harassing you with insufficient troops. They also cost faith, and not even much of it. And you don't even use faith for anything other than upgrades and going into hard and lunatic level, well, for that and certain troops.
So you don't really need to lose much as you can easily have regained the faith by the time you would need to use it.

5 faith per segment. You can't build a long enough wall with the initial 200 faith. That's, like, 40 squares, and I'd rather use these 200 for quick upgrades.

With the initial wood I can build enough houses and maybe a Circle, and with every worker gathering beer, I can reach N tech much quicker. With the initial faith, I upgrade the troops and the misc researched with no delay.

Might just be my playstyle speaking, though. I have yet to test this defensive build.

You can't build upgrades early. You can't get upgrades at all until normal level actually.
And you know, walls, they only cost faith. So no mushrooms or beer. And while 200 isn't enough. If you have workers gathering faith, you should have gotten enough to not only build a decent wall, but also enough to afford upgrades by the time you reach normal.

Upgrading to normall costs 500 alcohol, and while you could get there relatively fast by focusing on it, still takes a while even at its fastest, and depending on how many workers you build (50 alcohol each) it can delay this time further just a bit.

Simply by having one or two workers gathering faith you should get enough for a decent wall by the time you hit normal.

>> No.7752542

>>7752518
Yeah, GG.
Didn't think my output was that bad. My resource income great was quite high I believe, yet I failed the queing of more houses, having the worker somehow build herself in, and well, I suppose I should have been quicker overall.
Couldn't reach lunatic in time due to a mishap, and well, the macro of my home base wasn't the best I guess.

You still got me quite good with those troops though. Too bad I messed up maxing out my unit cap as planned, considering I could easily afford it. But good game.
Also, my Marisa strangely disappeared, I really couldn't find her anywhere, and I checked all the buildings... The game should have some kind of button to let you find them.

I think it depends on the kind of match you're having. 1vs1? Might want to skip building a wall.

Gigantic map with 6-8 players? Better build a wall fast, you could even get lucky and block scouting hero units by the time you have finished it.
