How common is substance abuse among NEETs? I've always imagined that alcoholism is pretty common, because a good chunk of people in AA meetings are social recluses, or have social trouble. Growing up, I knew I'd get addicted to something, I always had an extremely addictive personality. I was heavily medicated in my teenage years, and I started drinking alone around that time because I felt that I had nothing to lose. The first drink I ever had was alone, I can only remember 2 or 3 occasions where I got drunk with other people. I've been drinking every day for years, along with healthy doses of prescribed xanax. Alcohol is my drug of choice because I can buy it at the store, I don't need social drug connections. I go through a handle of $10 in 2-3 days.

I like alcohol because it shuts my brain off, and helps me forget how fucked up everything is for a few hours. I abused prescription painkillers in college when I had access to them, but it was very sporadic because my social skills were too poor to get a reliable connection. I can get alcohol any time I want at the store, legally.

$10 handles of Dubra(if they're on "sale" which they almost always are) in Connecticut. It's awful stuff, my trick to cut down the taste is to mix up some OJ concentrate and water, and make it about 40/60 vodka to oj. The acidity of the juice helps cut the taste. When you drink rotgut, you want to toss it into the back of your throat so it never hits your tongue.

It's nicotine poisoning, try smoking a low nicotine cigarette. Take it a puff at a time, if you smoke too fast without tolerance your head will be spinning and you'll puke all over the place. I recommend Marlboro 27s, pretty smooth, and the nicotine content isn't high. I'm a cigar fan, too, but they make me sick if I smoke too fast.

My drug of choice is cigarettes and light drinking. I usually smoke Winstons, since they last longer (I smoke indoors, and am usually doing something while I smoke), and the kick is strong enough that I can go without another. Besides Winstons, I smoke Marbs just about as much, partly because they're consistent and don't taste as gross as other, more oily cigarettes (camels), and also because I've been smoking those since I was a teenager.

I love my alcohol, but I'm also not too particular about it. Almost never drink during the day, but I usually take shots of Jack Daniels straight when I'm about ready for bed. On the event I'd rather prolong my drinking throughout a few hours, usually it's green apple smirnoff and rockster for me.

I don't do drugs, smoke or drink. I used to drink when out with friends, although I suppose acquaintances would be a better word since once out of college all communication stopped, but that's it.

I'm both too poor and too much of a shutin to aquire a substance to abuse now, that and it's a constant toss up between knowing I'll abuse it to escape reality, and wondering if it's an issue if I'm too out of it to care. That line of thinking works for portaling too though.
