Well, where I live it's not really. My sister works as a cosmetician in the beauty salon so I only have to pay the minimum price agreed with the company who leases the machine, which is ~20 cents for every shot, and one armpit is treated in about 15 shots.
The price for normal customers in their salon is ~40 USD for both armpits.
Basically, depending on your skin type you get treated about once a month for half a year, then for 5 or 6 years, just once per year for refreshing treatment.
Though she told me that no shops are doing it during summer as one shouldn't go out on the glaring sun full of UV for a few days after a treatment as it can lead to various skin harms.
