Ever feel privileged, that you happen to know Touhou? I feel, in a weirdly proud way. Absymal amount of people know ZUN music and all the doujin. Even fewer people can 1CC IN on Hard and feel the thrill.
All that stuff is so great, I sometimes truly feel sorry for the rest of the world.

Why would I feel privileged to have a niche interest? Plenty of people have a hobby, and I doubt the joy I get from a hard mode 1CC is any greater than the joy someone else could get from mastering a piece on the piano or writing a book or whatever the hell it is people do to kill time these days. Just because my way to waste time is more obscure and generally loathed doesn't make it better.

I must disagree. There's no single moment when practicing the piano where you can look at it and say "All the hours and hours of practice and concentration have paid off right here. I have finally accomplished what I set out to do, through dedication and skill." So you're not gonna get that incredible rush the first time you 1cc Lunatic, or anything like that.
The only thing comparable would be a piano performance, and that's sort of diverging from playing the piano as a hobby.

You make your own milestones with anything you do. The first time you manage to play a song without any major fuckups could easily be one such milestone, 1CCing lunatic in Touhou would be a milestone as well. In both cases you could say you've succeeded in what you wanted to do and feel a sense of accomplishment, and in both cases there is still infinity more to do afterwards.

Unless you are planning to stop playing touhou after getting all your lunatic 1CCs done, in which case shame on you for not doing score runs.

I don't feel privileged. I'm very bad at the games despite hundreds of hours of practicing, so I have nothing to be proud of. Once I get my first 1cc or clear an extra, then maybe that will change. But for now and for the past year, I have nothing else to feel privileged about. The fact that one of my hobbies revolves around a relatively obscure game in the west doesn't really make me proud.

True, but it's not as much of a binary thing. You can do very well in a song without missing any notes, but maybe you did some phrasing a little awkwardly here or there, or something like that. It's very hard to tell when you do exactly perfectly.
Compare with Touhou, where it's extremely visible and immediate whether or not you've 1cc'd the game.

Anyways, I never got anywhere with my piano efforts so I suppose I can't really say. I would say that I never felt quite so exhilarated while playing the trombone, even after wonderful performances. But maybe that's just me.

As for after Lunatics, I'm sure I'll stop playing for a little while to focus on other shmups, but I will probably come back and do score/perfection runs. Can't imagine I'd just stop playing altogether.
