Don't want to overstep my bounds, but you should make better use of alice's melee capabilities. I saw many occasions to smack your opponent which you used to just throw more projectiles.
Alice's dolls are there to give you the chance to do many things at once, hence the delay on them. You can throw them out, then go in for melee and it'll all come to him at once. Or use the dolls to plug the holes in between combos to keep pressure. her 5a and 6a have ridiculous range and speed.

You certainly know how to keep your spacing and the general flow, but that generally makes it easier to pressure you with Reimu or Chiquita.

Nah, once you figure out how reckless I am, you can exploit it an counter me over and over and over. I have a bad habit of blocking when I expect it, then I jump back as soon as the attack happens, so I can't block and take a counter hit. I'm slowly learning to fix that while still being aggressive, though.

Heh, you could actually see you go from being new to the game to being used to the mechanics. At first I went with Youmu to see how hard you would be, then I figured I should learn more characters and go back to her every so often. The third time you were getting pretty good with Suika to the point where I figured I should use my favorite character and got my ass kicked a few times.

the reason I've not got a pad is because I generally prefer a keyboard and couldn't be bothered with getting a pad for a game I'll play for a couple weeks before moving back to my normal fair.

That said, on the odd occasion I do play fighting games it's at a friends on a console, so I should probably consider a pad just to see the difference for games like this that come up in the future.
