Any recommendations on VN's that have a sad story, but an happy ending?

YMK - Aeka route is an example.

Love plus
The sad story is you and your pathetic life
The happy ending is you will finally decide to end it

Thanks, that's one atleast.
Cliche story though, cause I'm pretty sure your life is the same.

Wait, what about Aeka's route is sad? Aeka's route is a outside challenge to be triumphed over.

Nekoko and Mizuki's routes are more internalized and depressing.

Bullying sucks but you can pull a knife on them. You can't exactly pull a knife on fantasy addiction (Hiroko seems more addicted to her illusions than the drug itself).

Hm... I don't know if it really fits into what are you looking for, but Ever17, specially Takeshi routes are very sad and the ending, well... You probably already read it anyway.

Muv-Luv Alternative had a slightly depressing story but a moderately happy ending

Symphonic Rain had a slow but cutesy story with with a happy ending and some oh my god this is depressing endings.

Akiha route.

Swan Song. The true end almost seems like a cop out given how messed up the normal route is.

Also, seconding Ever17, especially Tsugumi's backstory.

>Muv-Luv Alternative had a soul crushingly depressing story but a troll ending
Fixed it for you, MLA is monstrously depressing and there is no happy ending if you take out the altered fable extra chapter at the end.

But man... Swan Song's happy ending is so retarded it doesnt count. I guess everyone (read as almost everyone) who played it disregarded the happy ending

>> No.7694189

Symphonic Rain is a good one. You'll feel dejected, you'll burn with anger, you'll shit bricks, then you'll cry bitch tears when you finally get the happy ending to what felt like a long journey.

I guess you could say the same for Ever17, but whereas Ever17 had good endings here and there before the final happy end, Symphonic Rain has nothing but bittersweet (mostly bitter) endings that leave your emotions unsettled until you reach the final one.

Huh? What's wrong with the happy ending?

Happy endings aren't REAL DEAL.

I just finished Kira Kira. It was actually better than I expected, and Kirari's route is fairly depressing. Might be right up your alley, OP, especially if you liked YMK.
