I have read a decent amount of the Christie novels.

If you want something bordering on absurd, you should try Hercule Poirot's Christmas, which has a pretty silly development. It's easier than most of the Poirot novels (you should be able to solve this) but there's still good satisfaction at the end of it. Master Quest mode: figure out everyone's backstory, there are a lot of characters

Orient Express is probably the best of the Poirot novels, it's good stuff. If you find the answer, good job. If you hate reading, you could watch the telefilm adaptation, which is very high quality(not normally recommended for Christienovels!!!!!!)

Ackroyd's pretty good, if "gimmicky". I didn't really like the first half as much as most christie novels, but I guess that's expected of the early Poirot stuff anyways. DON'T READ UP ON THIS! The answer is simple, and its why people talk about it.

Death on the Nile seems underappreciated, but it's one of my favorites. It moves about a lot, which is a lot unlike golden age fiction. The answer is satisfying too.

It's not a Poirot novel, but this wouldn't be /jp/ without mentioning Ten Little Nigger/And then there were None/ That which Umineko ripped off (not really). Of all the novels mentioned here, the solution is probably the best constructed in a technical sense, so if you want to be "baffled" until the last moment, this the one to choose. It's a great page-turner, even if I feel the ending could've been better-presented.

tl;dr Murder on the Orient Express

lately it seems i've been reading bits and pieces--i start intent on a book but my health worsens and when it picks up again i can no longer just pick up said book, i am drained of that magical substance of tenacity.

i have been on an kenzaburo oe binge, i finished the changeling and a personal matter and have been reading a silent cry and somersault; lolita was great and i liked the overcoat so gogol by nabokov turned out to be pretty great too!!

authors on my to-read-more-of list would probably be: satre, paz, borges, hemmingway (after i watched that episode of bartender about how "man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated." it really got me excited about hemmingway in a way i high school didn't really reach), dh lawrence, and of course serge lang

but most of all a school for fools by sokolov it feels like everything /jp/

It's been a while since I read books, but I think the last was Heike Monogatari. It makes a great drinking game; you can try it too if you want. Here are the rules:

1. Take a sip whenever a man cries, twice if he cries so much that his tears wet the sleeves of his robes. Take a swig if a large group of men are crying and their tears all wet their sleeves.
2. Take a sip whenever a samurai (or a concubine) becomes a monk (or a nun.) Twice if he threatens to be a monk but goes back on it.
3. Take a swig whenever the Emperor does something "most awesomely".
4. Take a sip whenever someone drowns. Upgrade to a swig if people drown en masse and to a shooter if it's because of their own stupidity (Let's attack those boats on our horses! We cannot lose, the Emperor favors us!)
5. A swig whenever Kiyomori loses it and decides to wreck the Imperial family's shit. A shooter whenever he actually does it.
6. A swig whenever the author complains about how the days of Buddhist law are ending and how the world has become corrupt.
7. A sip whenever civilian houses (and the civilians inside them) are burned to begin a confrontation. A swig if a temple is burned in the process.
8. Take a swig for every pun and misunderstanding on part of Yoshinaka. Two swigs if the author calls him boorish (but fuck the author, Yoshinaka is awesome.)

9. A sip for every poem. A swig for each reply to previously mentioned poems. Another swig if the poem earns its composer some ridiculous sobriquet (Who-gives-a-shit Chamberlain is especially notable.)
10. A sip for every exile. A swig if the process of escorting the exile is given vast amounts of unnecessary detail, two swigs every time we get back to the lives of previously exiled people.
11. Take a sip for every miracle. Twice if it was prayed for beforehand (in Japan you can order and pay for miracles.) Thrice if the god personally appears and names his price.
12. A sip for every time a precedent is mentioned. Twice if the author notes that a new precedent has been set and that it's a terrible event that upset the court because innovation is the tool of the devil I guess. A swig if the precedent in question is explained in full detail, two swigs if the precedent was from China.
13. Down the whole bottle and stop for the day after the battles where Genji completely crushes the Heike forces (Kurikara, Ichi-no-Tani and finally Dan-no-Ura)

It's rather crude and a few more rules can be added, but this was what I've used. Do prepare for alcohol poisoning, the first rule by itself will kill you.

Last book I finished reading was "Can't be Arsed: 101 things to not do before you die" by Richard Wilson about a month ago. It concisely explains why it's pointless to do the things which every claims you must do before you die. It was a very enjoyable read, short enough to read in one sitting, and a good book to recommend to annoying faggots who go on about there 'life changing experiences.'

Currently reading "Back to the Truth: 5000 of Advaita" by Dennis Waite. It examines the Hindu philosophy of Advaita, roughly meaning non-duality. It's long and quite complex in a lot of places but it's quite an interesting view of the world.

I started with introductory/motivational books along the lines of stuff written by Kiyosaki and Trump. That plus business magazines like Forbes and Fortune.
Once you get hooked on that real deal money stuff you naturally branch off into the field that seems most interesting. It is usually either real estate or stock/bonds trading. Sometimes it is business or investing.

Vampire Hunter D, pic related.

It's funny that these books were written in the 1980s and D is so beautiful that:

-Dust from his coat "sparkles darkly"
-Robots are stunned by his beauty.
-The laws of physics find him so gorgeous that "[the night] didn't want to bother the gorgeous youth with trivial things such as distance".
-Men and women alike get the hots for him, ALL THE TIME.

Compare and contrast Twilight.

Also: "The countenanced carbuncle".
