This is a weird question to ask here; but, what do guy thinks of motorcycles?

Are they actually practical? How safe is it? How much care do they require?

Picture is a pathetic attempt to make this less not-related.

when i was near the equator a few years ago on a trip (it was hot as HELL btw), many peeps were using motorcycles more than cars for some reason

I have a old harley my uncle gave me when he passed away.

As for practical, a car is both safer and more practical.
But it gets me from my apartment to the store quickly and thats all i need.

I would not buy one myself though.

Meant to write "you guys", damnit.

Yeah I figured, but I know a few people willing to sell bikes for cheap, which is what brings me to ask

You are statistically more likely to be involved in accidents, and those accidents are more likely to have serious consequences, while riding a motorcycle then driving a car. Also, its very cold while riding one and noisy as all heck. Car is the better bet, although walking/public transportation is the best.

Should have gone to /o/, but here's my 2 cents.

I've been riding for two years now and I love it.
Motorcycles are not practical, but they are usable. Scooters are better for practicality since they have superhigh MPG and storage place underneath the seat.
It's only as safe as you make it (don't ride over your limits, wear proper gear, learn to ride defensively). However, there will always be other factors like that asshat who didn't see you since he was chatting away on his phone.
The amount of care needed isn't so bad. Depends on the bike. I don't mind keeping my chain clean and lubed every 600-1000 miles. That's taking damn good care of it.

Also, some of the best motorcycles were designed by the Japanese. TOUHOUS RIDE TOO

THey're great fun. They are definitely unsafe, but if you stay on your toes you'll be okay.
Scooters are fun too.

I've been riding for my whole life, started off with a GT50 Yamaha that could barely hit 30 and moved up one peg at a time after I got comfortable with each new bike. You also have to know that no matter how good you are at riding you cant control the cars around you.

I have a Harley soft tail now with an engine over 30 times larger then the bike I first started on, thinking about getting a new one with my tax return next year.

Motorcycles are a lot of fun, but practical? I guess it would depend on whether or not you can ride it year round where you live. most of them get decent gas mileage. This of course varies by year and make. Older bikes tend to be easier to maintain.

I hope you have good medical insurance though. People tend to be assholes and even if your a safe driver it only takes one soccer mom on a phone to wreck your shit.

Wow, thanks, this is all actually really nice to know.

So did you learn how to drive properly through any of kind of special schools or anything?

>> No.7679443

I've been rear ended twice before. If I was on a bike during either of those I probably would've died.

I didn't, but there are driving schools. Some states require that you take a course, others just a driving test to get a motorcycle cert on your license.

I had an old Honda XR250.

Where I lived it was a semi-rural place so there was almost no police presence; it was a perfect place for racing and go at full speed. The sidewalk was also part of the track.

sadly, I suffered an accident and had to sell the motorcycle.

tl;dr: Motorcycles are fun, not as safe as a car, and enjoy white knuckles in winter.

If you can ride a bike, you can ride a motorcycle.
