The very strangest feeling of exhileration and accomplishment and relief of incredible nervousness and anticipation and idiocy and laughter when I died at 6 seconds left on 80% reflowering... but had an extra life to spare and therefore a bomb to cruise my way through the final seconds.

EX-4 Spiral-Yukari is my most favorit spellcard in this game. The first impression is like "it's impossible to beat that" but after some tries I figured out that the whole spellcard is causal - means there are no lolrandom-bullets and you can "trial and error" pretty fast a path to win this.
Speaking of lol-random bullets: 6-5 (Kaguya) was the most difficult one because you need a lot of luck there. You have a little bit influence on the spirals, but nevertheless you just need a lot of luck clearing this nasty spellcard.
My second favorite spellcard is probably 9-1 (Eirin). I just like it...

I actually liked how the trance system works in the demo, in regards to that, and I think being able to use it whenever you feel like is going to make the game even easier. Oh well.
The only thing I wish he'd get rid of is being unable to end it by yourself. Going trance mode during a non-card only to have the boss call a spell card, which leads to you losing the bonus because you're still in trance mode is pretty annoying.

I'm pretty sure the third thing he said there is that to balance out the low difficulty there are much fewer extends than usual. I had wondered if that was just a peculiarity of the demo.

Anyway being able to use it any time means you can use it on opportunity points during stages instead of basically having to save it up for the bosses. If you still get retarded points for hitting bosses with it then it will be still be stupid but at least less rigid. Being able to cancel it would help even more yeah.

Your mileage may vary, I guess. I didn't think it was that great until I started playing it on Lunatic, but afterwards it just became magical. It captures that "flow" you feel with other danmaku games but also gives you the additional challenge of contending with the ball. It's honestly too easy when you get the hang of it, though, because it's pretty easy to score whore and you get way too many lives from doing so. Still, it holds a special place in my heart

I still don't understand why ZUN gave Reimu purple hair in all the game's art even though ingame her hair is clearly black. It haunts me to this day

Scoring on normal is fun. Although, UFO scoring is kind of annoying because of how you can get like a 50% higher score if you learn how to exploit Ichirin. It seems like such a hideous thing to learn too. I have no idea how those laser hitboxes work even after watching.

>>7680381
Yeah, UFO Hard/Lunatic is rough. I absolutely love UFO though. The difficulty and scoring system are both excellent. The only problem is that I could never have the consistency to put together a good Hard/Lunatic run. Extra, on the other hand, is very accessible in comparison, so I've stuck to that.

Keep at it. I'm sure you'll get that Lunatic 1cc eventually. If you need any help, feel free to ask. I might be able to give some tips, at the very least.

>>7680432
Recently I devoted some time to learning how to supergraze Ichirin's midboss nonspell on Normal. Figuring out the other things shouldn't be so bad, at least compared to the precision required by Hard/Lunatic to get into certain safespots. And then there's grazing Nazrin's lasers and sitting in Kogasa skirt...

But yeah, I'm definitely not a huge fan of spending all the extra time milking graze out of things early in the game just so that cash-ins in the last few stages are that much larger. It's part of why I've avoided scoring outside of Extra, where everything's a little more short-term.

>> No.7680573

>50% higher score if you learn how to exploit Ichirin.

Not that high. 300M - 400M is a more reasonable number. Less in lunatic because there is no safespot in her midboss.

Not the same person, but you got me interested so I did some counting. To make it simple I only looked at the items starting at stage four and up. If you're good with your blue and rainbow UFOs then each point of graze should be worth about 25,900. If you're insane and do learn to exploit Ichirin then you'll be pulling 20K+ graze from her noncards alone. So a little over 500M.

On topic, a random run with Marisa-A because I saw someone else doing it. No chasing after graze or it would probably land in the 330M+ range. Nudged over a little less than I would have liked to for the second to last red wave of the survival.

Yeah I hate graze milking and safespot scoring. I set a goal of 1 billion without doing any of that (well, a little grazing). It's possible. If I hadn't died on my last run I would have had about 990m. But I burned myself out on STGs for a while and haven't tried again.

Here is one link that I found. There might be better ones so you should look around. You can find every last one of them easily if you Google search 'touhou ### mediafire'.

I can make a torrent of my collection but I don't know if I should. There wont be a single collection that is 100% complete. What you see in my picture is, so use it as a model. Also, make sure that you use the vsync patch on all the games, the older ones especially. It gets rid of input lag and gives you better control over the game.

When you start to play, make sure to have patience and know how to practice. It may take months to complete a goal but you will get there. This isn't something you can beat on the highest difficulty in a day. Also, make sure to watch a lot of replays. They help a lot.

Nothing too special. I've been meaning to get more.

Ctc is more like a bunch of smaller games put together. It's a little hard to navigate because everything is in moon. It's a little difficult but it has some amazing music and patterns. The graphics are pretty bad though. I don't think it's as good as any of the real Touhou games but I highly recommend trying it out. I find it most similar to IN or Eosd.

Ctc music is amazing. I freaking love it.

Mystical Chain is a fighting platformer. It has some nice art and it's pretty fun but nothing to take seriously.

What shot type are you using? UFO normal isn't something that should be impossible. 4 lives and 4 bombs is good for dealing with Byakuren. There was a time when I couldn't pass it on easy but I did eventually. Same for Normal and Hard, which I just got 6/6 today. Only lunatic remains. I was like you; don't give up. Even if you aren't planning on going as far as a 1cc, practice. You should practice at least a little bit every day. A week will kill you. Submit a replay and we'll help you. Sometimes it is best to just leave it for next time but this game does require patience.

I'm using Sanae A, which I know is worse than Sanae B and whatnot but I want to use her anyways. I take week long breaks often from one game, I usually just play a different game in the series because I don't want to put up with one of them, it's not that harmful considering I've been doing it for however long I've been playing, but progress is slow. Anyways, playing when frustrated or discouraged is no good since it will just make me worse like it made me in SA.

SA is all about memorization. It simply requires grinding to memorize some things

In UFO, I had my first 1cc on Normal as SanaeA. Imo, she isn't that much worse than SanaeB on Normal. You should be fine. She has a strong bomb that clears the whole screen and still leaves you very mobile. She also does a lot of damage with her shot. The only problem is that you can't shotgun her as well as SanaeB. And SanaeB's spread can be very important sometimes, especially on later difficulties.

If you don't feel like playing yourself, watch replays. There's always something you can do to get better.

>> No.7684763

>>7684757

I did memorize and I used to be able to at least get to stage 5 consistently, but now I can't beat stage 1 without losing a life nowadays so I have lost all of my will to play it. As for replays, I don't really like watching them for clearing stuff unless they're my own so I can see what mistakes I made. I might just do it if I really get fed up with UFO like I did with SA though.

You're right. Ctc was a pain to find. I'll put both games up on mediafire. It's 170mb total. It will take 30 minutes to an hour to upload. I'll post the link when it's ready.

Replays will show you strategies and techniques that you wouldn't be able to logically find yourself. This is especially true for ufo paths in ufo. There must be a few specific places that you are stuck on that sometimes steal a life or bomb from you. Replays give you the freedom to watch every last bullet in perfect detail without having to worry about getting hit yourself. SA is a hard game on normal. It's probably equal to hard on a few of the older games.

There isn't a single goal in any of the games that you can't accomplish if you try hard enough. Sometimes you have to take breaks and that is fine. You just have to keep going. You will look back on it one day and think it's easy as cake.

>> No.7684800

>>7684791

I don't really like replays because it feels like I'm looking at a strategy guide that tells you exactly what to do and I normally don't like to use those, even if it is harder to perform than it is to watch. For SA, I don't think it's as hard as any games on Hard currently, but it really upsets me nowadays and I don't know why I'm terrible at it now. Maybe I'll give it another go sometime after Ten Desires comes out, I don't know.

Been trying to beat her lately.
Can't.
That fucking Maze of Love kicks my ass so hard I want to cry. I get the feeling that this would all be so much easier with a visual hitbox, but on the other hand this shows me just how dependent on it I was.

I've had those moments when I was borderline stuck. It took me months of practicing to get those Hard 1cc's on UFO. I couldn't make it to stage 3 at first. I eventually refined my techniques up to the point where I was able to get that 1cc. It was an amazing feeling when I was watching Byakuren explode after months of training every day. You don't want the games to be too easy. Otherwise there is no accomplishment. The first time that I got to Byakuren's final card I had no lives and no bombs from the start. I got her health down to literally 3 pixels before I died. If I stayed around for half a second longer I would have captured it. You have to learn to roll with those kinds of things. I have moments where I cannot beat stage 1 for the life in me. It happens.

Don't think of replays as a lecture. Think of them as a crystal ball.

Raindrops: Move up on this one so you don't get clipped.
Guerrilla Typhoon: More vertically but not completely vertically. Make use of unfocused movement. Be very ready to bomb.
Surprising Slash: It's easier at first to move up to do this card. It's not best for someone new to it to be doing it at the very bottom. Very easy with SanaeA.

Peaceful Dark Clouds: Easy
Red UFO invasion of rage: Depends on the shot type. SanaeA does poorly on this one.
Snake Show: Easy.
Blue UFO Invasion of Grief: Killing the UFOs should be a priority. They can clip you if you can't kill them in time. Slight memorization is very useful here.
Danmaku Chimera: Pretty Easy.
Green UFO Invasion of Loyalty: You need to know what altitude to stand in and knowing how to kill some of the green ufo's is very useful here.
Undefined Darkness: A tough card. I once did a complete ND/NB run except for this one card which killed me 4 times. You just have to know how to lure her. The more you learn to manipulate it, the better.
Invasion of Terror: It's easier than it looks but it's still challenging. Can become easy with practice.
Nightmare of Heiankyou: Needs little bit of remembering but isn't that bad. You have to be careful not to let the grids spawn on you. The last few seconds of the card has some very thick bullets that need memorization. You must decide to bomb or not right before it.
Grudge Bow: Just straight up bullet-dodging. It's good to have extra lives and and good firepower here. It doesn't really get hard until the very end. The ending is a nightmare.

13 hours is nothing before you start crying.

Overall Nue is a pretty easy boss. The stage is very challenging though.

Ran strangely isn't that bad for some reason, I think the furthest I've gotten is to her second to last spellcard so far. Ran has Banquet of the General Gods, Charming Siege, Princess Tenko and Chen, plus her stage has Soaring Bishamonten. All Yukari has that's substantially harder than Ran's version is Death Butterfly and even then the small shrapnel on Unilateral Contract is sometimes harder to dodge.

Yukari is practically a joke up until her last few cards, one of which has a gaping safespot.

Yukari is practically a joke up until her last few cards, one of which has a gaping safespot. I can't even play against Koishi or Nue though, I haven't even unlocked them. I just beat Mokou for the first time today. It only took me 2 lazy days. It was border team. The stage was jokingly easy. I don't think Mokou herself is that hard of a boss. I did a ton of practice before that run. It took over a hundred tries on some of the spellcards for me to logically be able to challenge them. I still need to practice it but the victory is sealed.

You have to learn how to read the slashes. I'm working from my personal experience on how I learned the card. It wrecked me until I moved up, then I decided to go back down for the most part when I decided to 6/6 it. Staying higher can be more beneficial for damage output.

I would personally say no. All of the gamesexcept SA & FW should be doable on easy. After you are done with easy you will be able to decide where you want to play Normal.

I would recommend IN. It's generally regarded to be the easiest game close to PCB while still having some new features that will help you play. It will help you get used to both the new and the old games. You should be done quickly with Easy.

This link somewhat gives you a good explanation.

You should also check out the wiki on the game to explain a few things to you that may not be obvious to you.

I would also seriously recommend using this. The picture shows you how to set it up.

This anon has a point. It messes with your deathbombing skills. IN has the easiest deathbombs in the whole game. Usually you have to X it before the bullet even hits you so that you would bomb it within milliseconds. IN gives a huge gap to decide if you want to bomb or not. But then again, it's usually not good to do so since deathbombing on IN uses two bombs instead of one. Why use two when you could have used one? Deathbombing makes you weaker. Apart from IN, you should never learn to rely on deathbombs unless you are dead sure of what you're doing. In my regular UFO runs, I can make maybe 1/4-1/3 of my bombs deathbombs and that is very good.

Some people may think that sheer bullet dodging skill is what makes a good Touhou player. Touhou is a lot like a puzzle game. There are some things that no matter how good you are, you just wont get them the first time. Memorization is what you should focus on when playing these games. Bullet dodging skills will come by themselves.

If you want zero memorization and sheer bullet dodging, play pofv. There is nothing to remember. You just dodge bullets. It's not a real Touhou game but it's very easy.
