Just played XIV yesterday, first time in months.

It's made leaps and bounds from what it was at release, but then again, it was basically unplayable by anyone but masochists at release.

I feel like it's now better than shitty WoW clones like Rift, maybe worth a $30 price tag. You can now at least search for an item and it will tell you the name of the bazaar NPC that holds it, where it is, and the price, but the Auction House really was so much better, even with Chinese gold farmers fucking with the economy on a daily basis. No more fatigue is great, since all you can fucking do at this point is solo if you want exp. I'll be an optimist and say by the end of the year, we'll have a pretty good MMO.

There is a very cheap combination pack floating around that includes all content, the addon scenarios, the expansions, etc for pretty cheap.

Honestly though, with an abyssea endgame that the userbase has decided is the worst thing ever (since they're such casuals, you see), it can be a real asspain to go from grindgroup to grindgroup to grindgroup to max out and only find out that good abyssea groups are impossible for a person without previous hnm experience (read: before abyssea) to enter the linkshells of.

It's pretty good. There's still a decent userbase and if you get the Abyssea pack (It's on Steam) you also receive an ingame item that gives you a helmet that helps a lot for starting out. It's a lot more casual now without levelling made stupidly easy thanks to Abyssea and such but if you don't know anyone who doesn't play the game then I probably wouldn't bother as starting out can be quite harsh when everyone else has been playing for 5+ years. The game is also pretty slow in comparison to most other MMOs so without anyone to talk to you can become quite bored pretty fast.

I tried it during beta and found it ok, after release i played it for half an hour and never started it again.
The cheapest place i could get it from they were 96,15$, i also built my self a new computer so that i could play it.
One thing that would make me feel better would be if there were more good pc games released, games made for Xlimitations and then ported are generally never good.

I played it for a bit earlier this morning. It's better than Rift or any recent F2P online RPG at least.

It still needs a few things that should have been there since the beginning though (auction house, mounts, etc). But once it gets this stuff then it might be pretty worthwhile.
