What 3DCG is: 3d custom girl, a program for creating a character and posing it. Has a light sex sim. Using MMD(mikumikudance) you can create your own animations as well as simply expand creative potential.

Consider all mods and hardsaves in this thread to be of Japanese origin unless stated otherwise.

Please avoid posting the full URL when linking to Japanese uploaders or files in uploaders. Just remove the "h" in "http://"(as shown above). Also, avoid directly posting the password to the 3ch site; if they find it is distributed openly, they will change it(and possibly the url, apparently). The mod pack included in the OP is the first of more planned. Feedback appreciated.

If you are looking for general hard saves, try browsing the hard save preview folder linked in the OP. Remember that the files contained are only images and not hard saves, but at least one person on /jp/ has every hard save contained in the folder, so if you see one you like, request it by asking for the full file name you see there.

the mod catalog has been updated.

there aren't really any other changes.

to the guy who criticized my model in the last thread, thanks again. i changed her proportions a little bit, although you might not be able to tell with this shots and i'm not sure it'd fit your criteria anyways(i was satisfied before and still think she looked cute rather than "very awkard,"(not intending to sound angry there)), but i'd say it does seem a little better now.

To everyone else, I doubt there will be any interest, but if anyone would like to try making a model like the one I've been posting for awhile now(meaning, the face and the body color of the Lat shiki; clothes, hair, etc. are free, but the proportions will be a little constrained unless you can really follow directions) for MMD, I'm thinking of distributing the... uh, technique... soon, and I would like someone to see if they can successfully make a model before I try to release it anywhere.

So, if anyone is interested in trying(it should be easy), please let me know.

This model works fine in 3DCG/PMDeditor, but loading it into MMD produces a really bizarre effect. Does anyone what's causing this? Sorry about asking here, but the 3DCG wiki/mikumikubeat doesn't seem to touch up on this problem.

it's not hard, but you need a lot of time and "accuracy" for the animation so your character doesn't look like robocop when he move, or you can just download the motion from someone and use it on you character.

I hate to give a serious response to this, but she's not exactly special...

She can be made in five minutes with average mods. If there were special models being used like with many Futaba characters(anyone remember the drill haired loli princess with star eyes?), I would see a reason for bitching, but they're all just normal mods.

Given that those are the case, it's not an especially large concern of mine to share her. Hell, if you wanted to spite me, you could easily reproduce her to do so, so it would be counterproductive. But as I said last thread, she looks completely different in TDCG than she does in those pictures.

If you want the MMD model, I'm fine with sharing it, but I don't see a point in posting a particular save if you're expecting something like that.

This is the body she's using, since I imagine most don't want to download the body mod pack. If you attach hair and clothes to it you will see what I mean. I figure people would want to change her hairstyle anyways, so what else is unique?

>>7655634
No problem, if you make something I'd be interested in seeing it.

>>7656045
So long as you don't mind wading through Japanese, it's fairly easy to use. It requires virtually no technical knowledge, it's like learning how to play a game.

There's a lot to learn, but it's fun to do so so long as you have a source of information(in this case, I highly suspect that this thread is probably the best place for information). It's very rewarding to be able to see whatever you want.

>It's not for lazy people, i can tell you that.
Definitely not if you want to actually make something like the Mikunologie video, or your own motion, but if you just want to see your girl moving lively in a scene(which is how I spend much of my time), even a lazy person can have fun with it.

Just drag, drop, and position models, load a motion, and you have something to watch.

Making whole dance motions is time consuming, though. That one dance took me the better half of a night to make.

I only made that for a Nekomimi Switch video I'm planning on making sometime, though, and I would normally have given her a sunhat with an outfit like that.

Here's another in what's probably the best TDCG dress in existence by a long shot. It's very unfortunate that it ports to MMD like shit thrown over a fence. The skirt is also a little delicate, I doubt it looks good in h-scenes.

I like this enough that I could make it into her main outfit, but I don't really like the idea of doing that using a set that's intended to be put together(although for some reason I've never seen anyone use this dress).

I'd actually add some more to it if it didn't make it too big to post here. And more if it was an MMD model; setting up some outfits can be a pain in TDCG, specifically when you want to choose two items that belong to one category.

i just tested out the automatic skirt creator plugin for mmd. the skirt moves beautifully, so i suppose i have to take that back.

or rather, the movement itself is beautiful, but the skirt scrunches up... i'm going to have to try to get a little better understanding of mmd's physics system if i want to do something with this.

the quality of movement this plugin makes seems like it would make skirt creation a matter of minutes rather than an impossibility given an understanding of the system.

you have the ik bones turned on, turn them off. other than having to correct the center bone it should be more or less fine afterwards.

if you want to use the ik bones(you can't really animate without them...) you will have to trace them onto the positions of the feet bones. it only takes a few minutes per pose, but if you're trying to convert a ton of poses, i'm afraid there's no easier way to do it that i know of.

i can tell you the quickest method of doing tracing the IK bones if you want, but i won't go into it if you're not interested. i can almost guarantee you'll be wasting time if you try to do it without knowing a trick or two.

>> No.7660135

>>7660121
oh, and in case i'm wrong(sorry if i sounded irritated, it wasn't my intent) and you do have the ik bones off, try posting the pose file you're trying to convert.

and to be clear, you turn the ik bones off at the bottom left while selecting a model. they're essentially bones which serve to chain other bones, and tdcg doesn't have them. tmo2vpd doesn't have a method of interpreting ik bone in formation from a TDCG pose, so that's why you need to either turn them off or hand-trace their position.

I'm going to post this just because I need some relief from experimenting with the system trying to learn how to use the skirt creating plugin. It seems like no matter what variable I change the sensitivity/distance a rigid body is moved by another rigid body doesn't change.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-lVAC_-MuY&feature=player_embedded

Just a simple Nekomimi Switch video I made from the scene in the OP. It's nothing special; it just shows the skirt.

That's probably the first thing I could call a success... There should be no clipping around the lower part, at least, but it still doesn't move as well as the plugin is capable of. I suppose I'll upload another video to show what I mean.

The upper part clips with her lower stomach, but that's something caused by a change I made but didn't notice until after recording and is reversible(it was a mistake to make the belt move in the first place). The real problem is that it's too stiff, and moves in blocks. It's like you can see the rigid bodies.

I don't advise bothering with this one if you aren't interested in the sadly semi-bloglike attempt at skirt-learning I've been doing since yesterday or so.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZPZlCSGCsw

It's a Secret Garden video purely for the purpose of showing the skirt's actual movement, made from a model designed for testing with no physics, proportions, or appearance editing.

The skirt doesn't look good either, but that's not the point. If you've watched the Nekomimi Switch video, you should be able to see that this skirt moves far more smoothly than it, disregarding clipping. I'm looking into why. I am hoping to find an easy process of making a skirt that doesn't clip(the NMMS skirt) but still moves fluidly(this skirt).

The reason I am doing this now is because the plugin seems like it would be very fast and easy to use, but requires an understanding of what to do. Before trying this plugin, creating a skirt seemed like an impossible task, but with it, I could enter the data required to give these skirts their physics from scratch in less than 15 minutes without rushing, but if I don't know what to enter then it doesn't matter.

I'm also doing it because skirts that move like shit and/or clip just don't do it for me, of course. I got lucky that the Pretty Cure skirts moved satisfactorily fresh out of tso2pmd(for some reason, the Cure Negi video is almost twice as popular as any of my other videos... well, I can guess multiple reasons) but they really aren't my preference.

I just met with a lot of success, and I'll upload a video in a bit for anyone who cares, but I was also screwing around with effects and ended up with this. It's kind of interesting because it looks so much like lineart, but it's fully animated. I wonder if anyone would be willing to color stuff like this/use it for art.

Aside from slight random wobbling(not really noticeable when she's moving around), the skirt moves close to ideally now. I think it still has some problems with fast leg movements around 90 degrees, though, which shouldn't be happening.

The only problem with this skirt is that it doesn't work too well with proportions, so my only real choice is to make it on a default model and then rescale it to a model with proportions by hand. That's typically easier than it sounds, but with this skirt, the skirt is not really separate from the overgarment so it's probably going to be more difficult.

I'd actually posted the above effect before. It's called the Croquois effect. However, I hadn't tried it with lightbloom yet.

Without lightbloom, and at full opaqueness, it looks like this. Doesn't seem as useful for lineart because it makes the lines look like they're ink spatters, but it appears that setting it to a low transparency with lightbloom active gets rid of that.

Granted, some details are gone with the combination in the above post(such as parts of her dress' gold embroidery) but that's probably better than the reverse(having everything blotchy).

I'm uploading a video of the progress I've made on the skirt now.

Newest "update" on my progress.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW4DQVSanMA

I chose the song because it accurately expresses my feelings after struggling to learn this system I still don't quite get yet

I'm amazed at the plugin. The day before yesterday my greatest physics thought was trying to animate a single ribbon. My greatest physics accomplishment from scratch was... nothing. While it's not perfect, if it can dance the Popipo Diva dance without clipping once(it can), I'm relatively satisfied. Still going to try to remove the random wobbling, and prevent things like the single instance of clipping in that video.

I also made a short segment showing the effects in >>7664653 at around 1:52. It lasts for around 1,000 frames.

I imagine interest in learning is 0, but if anyone wants me to, I'll explain how it's done. Unless you want to test it out yourself or want me to upload a comparison video, you'll have to trust me when I say that the movement produced by simply converting from tso2pmd doesn't even compare to this. It's like comparing an origami bird moving to a real bird.

I'm having a difficult time getting it to transfer over to my original proportions. The texture of the gold pattern stretches and there's more wobbling than in the last video on normal proportions.

I have some ideas about why/what to do, but I don't want to make this too long, so I won't say much more than that. I'm probably making this seem harder than it is; even without solving those problems, it still looks many times better than it did out of tso2pmd.

Glad to hear it. Posting like this actually helps me keep my English up, since I don't really have any other outlets to use it in.

As you can probably tell, the physics system is my primary gap of understanding in MMD. I've never found a good explanation for it in Japanese or English. I'm surprised there's not a tutorial for skirt making since the plugin(SkirtEditor) is so easy to use(relative to old methods).

It seems that if one rigid body is assigned too close/inside of another, the random wobbling occurs. That's difficult to correct with her BWH ratio(her ass/hips are large enough that it seems like I have to make the skirt billow out behind/aroud her to correct it).

some mods will crash the game for various reasons. unless perhaps your system is complete garbage, there shouldn't be a problem with the amount of mods. if you find you have one, i suggest removing+readding mods in batches until you can find the culprit. you might try checking with tdcgexplorer to see if you can find a mod conflict.

wow... this plugin is even better than i thought. a monkey could add physics to any kind of accessory or clothing part with this. well, it's almost that easy... adding physics to a long, patterned, body-attached skirt was difficult without knowledge, but adding them to something simple like a ribbon is easy.

it's too bad the english community is a bunch of foolishness scattered around deviantart and youtube or i could tell people about it(if any of you are involved in it, don't take offense to that, i just dislike how there's no centralization whatsoever), i don't think it's known.

i suspect it might even be able to add physics to body parts, but that's not an intended use.

I managed to get the Lat-looking model with proportions to a decent point. There is still a small amount of clipping; I've more or less fixed the front clipping in this video; I'm reluctant to do anything just yet about the back because it'll make the dress bulge out even more behind her. This is actually a new skirt; I redid the physics on a model with proportions instead of refitting the old one for various reasons.

A comparison between the old/new model with Kimi wa Melody(Idolmaster dance):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMcwD-uqil0

My remaining desires for her:
1. Make the skirt not bend at angles(see the last pose). Preferably make it not so huge, but it's tough due to her large hips/ass.
2. Add in the rest of the things I was planning on(such as her normal hair ornaments, gloves, possibly garter, a crown and bolero, etc.) but left out until I got the skirt done
3. Either put physics on the sleeves or get them to move with her hands
4. Finally give the ribbons physics, something I've been intending to do for awhile. I'm not really sure they fit on this model, though. The pink just seems to stand out.
5. Related, maybe a different hairstyle. I love her twintails, but I think something else might fit better with this outfit, as is probably the same with her rough bangs. Possibly straight long or something more done up, like that girl from Super Robot Wars; kind of depends on what has good physics.
6. Not really sure whether to make it so her hands can't clip with the skirt. I did it on purpose, because it seems to cause more harm than good, but it's easily reversible

It irritates me to do so but I'll probably tack on a morph to shrink her breasts too. Or maybe not, I don't really have confidence people would use the model even if I did, which is the only reason I'd do it.

I don't usually do this much on models. Most of them take between 15 minutes to an hour.

And there are a lot of other really useful plugins here(BoneDoubler is a must-have for good animation or general motion editing)
http://www6.atwiki.jp/vpvpwiki/pages/228.html

It's called SurfaceEditor(SkirtEditor is an old version). It's only in japanese, though.

It sets up joints, rigid bodies, and bones automatically just by running it on selected vertices. Just by running the program, I was able to add physics to the sleeves(using proper settings). They didn't come out quite the way I thought they would, but I have an idea for how to make it better.

I may have overstated the simplicity of adding something to a ribbon, it actually seems easier to add things to sleeves and such. The program isn't designed to assign physics to a linear object, but it should just be a matter of combining weights across bones.

It's simple to use(especially compared to doing all the physics by hand), but if you can't read Japanese and/or have no background knowledge on MMD's physics system/PMDE, I'd have to explain it.

But at least I wasn't senseless enough to do this.

I'm not really sure if I think the fact that the gold on the head is brighter than the gold on the body is a bad or good thing.

Learned that if a model has too many expressions it will crash MMD, so you have to be sure to merge expressions when merging multiple models. I usually do anyways, but oftentimes I forget to. This time it ended up crashing over and over and I was despairing a little until I thought of it.

Not really sure if her hairstyle is better/worse/the same. Seems to fit better with the outfit.

I have a favor to ask regarding the plugin I've been using.

I suspected that it wasn't working properly for me before, and I've just confirmed that suspicion. My display is missing out on some fairly important variables.

I would really appreciate it if someone would kindly to boot up the plugin and see if it works properly for them. I'm not sure if my OS is causing the problem or what. Pictures coming next post.

The left window is what the plugin looks like to me under the third tab(縦Joint), and the right one is what it's supposed to look like. I only have one variable displayed for every three I'm supposed to, and the fields are bugged.

I've tried this on many versions of PMDEditor. It's designed to work on version 1.0.0, but it should work on later versions(it runs up to to the latest one).

If anyone doesn't mind taking a minute to cooperate(all I want you to do is look at the window and tell me if it works, and/or other relevant info you might have like your OS), the tools are here:

pmdeditor(newest)
http://www.mediafire.com/?a5t3qqd3izqsa7h
the plugin
http://www.mediafire.com/?25uibdqq9ndvjbq

To use it
1. unzip PMDEditor
2. put the plugin(SurfaceEditor.dll) into the "_plugin/User" folder inside of the PMDEditor folder
3. Boot up PMDEditor
4. In the PMDEditor window(not PMDView, the model viewer) go to 編集>プラグイン>User>曲面自動設定プラグイン and then click on the third tab and see if it looks like the left or the right window in the SS I've posted.

Any help/confirmation is appreciated. I'm suspecting it may either be something with my OS, or perhaps I need to update Microsoft visual, but that's all I can think of that I haven't tried. Kind of embarrassing to ask this, but some of these settings would be useful and I'm out of other ideas.

There is software (that was posted in /r/ as an answer to someone's question) that will let you animate any still image. Obviously, the source image should have high resolution so that the final animated product looks better. An example of an ishiki picture being animated is shown. More could have been done, like a longer animation, but this example illustrates what can be done to any single good resolution picture. It's also efficient as you can get a lot of animation into a small-sized file. A trademark of this software is that the output images have very-smooth animation since it is you who decides on the quality level and anyone with sense will go for the high quality output.

You can also use the software to make minor changes in the facing of a character. An example is shown here using a drawing whose character was modified to face a slightly new direction. If you have the patience, you could chain together a bunch of small facing changes and come up with the character facing a bigger change in direction. But that would take a lot of work, but if you do not have the artistic skill, then using such a software package is one approach which lets you substitute your time/effort in exchange for artistic skill.

These changes were not done using 3D Custom Girl. They were done by software made by japanese fans who wanted to animate existing individual pictures without the need for much artistic skill. Of course, you can use photoshop to merge 2 separate characters together, such as Biribiri and the teleporter girl. Once you have edited them both into the same picture, you can then apply the software to animate them.

The picture here shows what can be done to a photograph. Notice how everything else remains still because the animation effect was limited to just the area around Nicholson's face. It's obviously quite different that assembling a series of separate photographs to create a GIF animation because the animation in this picture was created from using only one single photograph.

No, there's no easy way to do it.

You have to export the file into a format usable in 3d software, edit the model, and then reimport it back into TDCG. If you convert your character to a PMD file for use in MMD you can do it with PMDEditor by selecting vertices weighted to the chest, scaling them down on the z/x axis, and then merging them by distance, but that will probably only be usable in MMD.

>> No.7689996

>>7689978
assuming your directx is functioning and your graphics card is capable of handling MME, it should simply be a matter of dragging and dropping the .x file into the MMD window.

there are actually a few motionblur.x files, but if you're referring to the one in the MotionBlur folder, then...

1. Drag & drop into MMD
2. Tune the amount of blur with the Si value, tune the length of the afterimage with the Tr value.

you shouldn't have to do anything else. is that not working for you? keep in mind the motion blur effect may be hard to see if you're not really looking for it(just move a model quickly and see if it blurs).

i'm sure there is more customization you could get out of messing with the .fx file, but that's changing the effect itself.

Yes, depending on which depth of field you use, its use can be a little complicated. There are around 4 depth of field effects: 玉ボケDOF, SvDOF, BeamMan_DOF, and TrueCamera. They mostly have the same effect, and I think they mostly work the same as well.

Like motionblur, DOF is also drag+drop. However, unlike motion blur, in most cases you have to set it up to use it properly(but sometimes you can just D&D).

In general, depth of field has a focal point. That focal point is usually wherever the .x file's model exists. So, for example, if the coordinates of the .x model are x=0 y=0 z=0, the focal point is at 0.

Most DOF effects have the Si value as the range of the blur(so, if the value is huge, objects in the distance won't be blurred; if the value is small, everything will be blurred) and the Tr value as the strength of the blur(Tr=0 means there is no blur, .5 is half strength blur, 1=full strength).

Usually, you put the DOF effect on whatever model/point you want to be focused on. So, for example, if you have miku as the main model and you want her surroundings to be slightly blurred, you would:

1. D&D the DOF effect into MMD
2. Attach the .x model to Miku; which bone doesn't really matter for normal use
3. Adjust the Si value to whatever is necessary for the scene
4. Adjust the Tr value to however strong of a blur you want
and you're done.

Make sure you register the effect after you're done.

Note that you can also simulate shifting focus by attaching the DOF to a dummy bone and then moving the dummy bone around to change the dof's focal point.

Personally, I just use TrueCamera. It's a combined motion blur and dof effect. There's less control(motion blur is controlled with Tr and DOF is controlled with Si), but it seems to work more predictably and is often adequate.

>>7691200
>Most DOF effects have the Si value as the range of the blur(so, if the value is huge, objects in the distance won't be blurred;
sorry, i meant "even objects in the distance." at large values nothing will be blurred because the range of the focus is too big for anything to be outside of it.

I don't care much for the animation aspect of MMD, but I like to use it to make stills of my 3DCGs doing lewd things.
I don't like flat shading much, so to get the look I want, I make minor variations of light and shader settings, export them as transparent png in the largest resolution my GPU can take, then I photoshop a composite. I also use this technique to soften the terrible default self-shadows (spotlights are hard to use right and too demanding on my old gpu).

In this pic I used 50 2300x3900px exports, merged in various ways, I also shopped out some clipping and faces missing inside clothing. The result is meant to be very subtle.

Since exporting a single frame close to the maximum resolution is really slow, I made a little frame by frame export script with autohotkey, so I can export a lot of them unattended.
I bet there's already some tools that do this better hidden on some secret nip uploader but I couldn't be bothered to search.

I'm gonna link to the script in the next post because I keep running into the "Part of your comment isn't allowed to be posted :(" error for some mysterious reason.

That looks very nice. It looks better than most of what I find on Futaba. While I'm not a fan of traditional TDCG model's faces(at least with standard specular/ambient levels), the image quality and shading is good.

I love MMD for the animation aspect, but it is good just for SSes/posing.

From what you've written, I can't quite tell whether you mean you're using MME somehow for the shading or if you're simply doing composite imagery. I have to admit I've never really looked into composite imagery, but it sounds like the latter or there wouldn't be much need for photoshop, I'd think.

Apologies if this is unwanted advice, but you can use MME to soften shadows very easily using BeamMan's SoftShadow effect(http://ux.getuploader.com/BeamMan/download/41/full_SimpleSoftShadow.zip).). I don't know if you typically find MME effects satisfactory or not, but it will automatically soften shadows just by loading it onto the model so it might make things easier if you're not using MME for anything else.

>> No.7694730

>>7692776
Yes it's composite, essentially a ton of layers with low opacity. I am familiar with photoshop so I find this process easy to work with, it's definitely overkill and could be done in a smarter way, but my script makes exporting a long timeline painless so I don't mind.

For this one first I exported 20 oversampled PNG with the light moving a little and the default shaders, and I merged them progressively in PS with 5%, 10%... 95%, 100% opacity.
I exported 20 more with the same light path, but used various shaders I found in the MME effect pack posted here a while ago, mostly edited variants of the serious shader and adult shader. I merged these 20 the same way.
Then I made a few frames that focus mostly on speculars and shiny things. I masked the unnecessary parts and blended them in "lighter" mode in photoshop.
I tweak opacities and masking until I'm satisfied, then I retouch a few details (inevitable clipping when using 3DCG models, holes inside clothes and shoes due to missing faces, harsh shading on face).
I add a very small amount of smart blur, box blur, and noise, then resize to target size. (And in this instance add a shitty background! But it was a good example with the variety of materials & different skin colors).

Thanks for the shader/plugin recommendation, either I did not know it or did not get it to work, I'll try it.

Sounds like a lot of work, but it gets results. To this day I've just done everything with MME, but it seems like in order to make something really good I'd have to learn to use composite techniques too.

The background wasn't bad. It has an abstract feel to it which I have trouble producing, actually. I don't know if you've been watching this thread, but if so you might've noticed almost everything I do is just normal environmental scenes. I don't seem to work well with random shapes/colors/patterns.

Yeah, TDCG models usually have those problems fresh from tso2pmd. Some don't, but I've gotten used to editing things with pmdeditor to fix them.

>> No.7696469

>>7696013
It's not that bad. It's much more deliberate than just pressing printscreen, but I can go from 3DCG export to finished picture in 1 hour if I manage to work two-handed the whole time.
80% of the results come from rendering as big as the GPU can handle, and from the subtle blur overlay, anyway (unfortunately it's hard to use those with video, doubling the resolution quadruples the storage requirements).

If you or someone else is interested I can post a PSD showing the steps I used, the next time I make something.

Would you have some places to recommend to download scenery of any kind, beside links found on the official MMD wiki and stuff exportable from 3DCG?
Seems like a lot of those are only findable if you follow the niconico mmd scene.

Sure, I'd be interested in seeing exactly what it is you're explaining. I doubt I'd be making use of it right away so no rush, though.

>backgrounds
Well, for one thing, I have quite a few backgrounds myself, so if you see any you'd like but can't find feel free to ask.

As to easy places of getting them... no, not really. I don't know if you're familiar with the tag or not, but the Nicovideo tag for stage-distribution is
MMDステージ配布あり
(quickly translated, "MMD Stage Distribution")

It may not help you search for a specific one, but every video you find with that tag should have a bg in it.

You may also be able to find some stuff on Deviantart, although I've never really looked there for anything. Apparently there's a good amount of distribution that goes on there, but while I'm aware of it I've never checked it out.

People respect others' distribution "rights," and so there's not really any one consolidated place to find well-marked stages. They're usually distributed on personal sites, one of the many MMD uploaders, etc.

In any case, sometimes people make things specifically for one video and never distribute them, but I have quite a large collection so if you're looking for something specific just ask(an SS/video link should be fine).

Didn't know of that actually, I figured that with their hate of sharing they'd never do something as convenient as agreeing on a standard tag. I'll look into it.

I made another composite illustration and this time kept a record of all the steps used.

I used SimpleSoftShadow on this one, using the same technique of compositing 20 frames. Last time I tried SimpleSoftShadow I found it too crude, but I gave it another try following your recommendation, and after editing it (SoftShadowParam = 6; SHADOWMAP_SIZE 8000) I found it pretty useful.

Here is the PSD: http://www.mediafire.com/?idf7kqx1j9rwibl
Should be self-explanatory if you know photoshop enough (and useless if you don't).

I also used many tricks that aren't obvious from the PSD. I use the concave eyes that always look at the camera (less work that way), many textures were edited, and some characters are exported in 2 parts (for example to disable shadows from glasses).

For before/after comparison, here's what the normal MMD output is like.

The difference in the shadows is really something. I've put off mentioning it, and I don't know if you're aware or not, but you can make it so the default shadows aren't so jagged by turning down the shadow distance in View>Shadow setting. It won't make them soft, but it should make their lines cleaner depending on the situation.

I like the shine added to some clothing as well. The angle on the right front girl(teacher?) is too good for words.

Given that you're doing all this in the first place and pay attention to aspects I normally don't find myself bothered with, you'd probably get a good amount of satisfaction from learning how to use PMDEditor. It's not difficult to do things like fixing clipping issues, making jagged clothing straight, etc. Actually, aside from the face, the biggest benefit for me is being able to make loose clothing fit better. Although, if you're going to be using lots of different models with still images, I suppose photoshopping might actually be easier.

Glad you found the MME effect useful. It would be really great if they could make it into a post effect so that it doesn't take up the MME model-specific slot. I personally adjust effects often myself too.

Even under ideal conditions (wide angle & low distance) it's jaggy, and high distance + high zoom was crucial here, to reduce the size difference between characters at the font and in the back, so mode 1 was only applied to the whole scene at values of 8000+, and mode 2 tends to look pretty bad on 3dcg stuff.
Spotlights aren't an option either, too much strain on the GPU causes traumatizing half-renders such as this one.

Well, I'm no expert either, but if you'd like my opinion, the actual motion in most dances usually consists of a few things:

1. Transitioning between poses with some kind of pattern(often just repeating), often giving time for #2 in between or during poses
2. Movement of one or two limbs(such as arm twirling) and/or a related body part(such as upper body or head); generally during this other body parts aren't idle but aren't moving as much
3. Rhythmic overall movement(such as the bobbing the body up and down)

Learning how to choreograph from watching videos would probably be easier keeping the above in mind(looking for key poses and how they're connected, watching for when the primary movement shifts to a particular body part, etc).

For a hands-on approach, taking TDCG poses(or existing motions) and learning how to make a transition between them is effective.

Giving yourself two poses to connect makes you think about how to do it naturally/stylishly, which is pretty much the basic point of dance(see meme dances; the hugely popular Caramelldansenn(sp?) is just the one pose flipped on itself and animated together) as I hypothesized above. Testing with your own body helps with this as it helps you realize not only whether the movement rates are weird, but also which body parts "should" be moving in the transition.

tl;dr Good idea, but if you want something hands on you with MMD, you might try animating transitions in between TDCG poses or existing motions. "Preview"/Check the motion with your body to help you think about how a person would move in between.

Sorry for going off on a theorycraft train, it's half a result of boredom.

Yeah, it's possible, but I don't know how to do it aside from a general idea of what would "need to be done."

You'd probably need to decrypt the game data, unpack the model+textures, convert them to formats usable in 3d software, load them into a 3d editing software, and then export them to PMD. Rigging the model could probably come either before or after the last step, and I'm probably missing a step or two but that seems like it would be the basic process.

Older/cheap games aside, it still probably wouldn't look quite the same since most games are using effects on their models. You'd need to use MME for that, but good luck understanding what effects need to be used unless you really know what you're doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the day when half of the MMD videos in existence get hit by copyright laws is not far away.

I want the Mamama Gumi model badly... It's the only model I've ever seen that I thought was both better made and as cute as the Lat model. I would really like to see if I can fit it to a TDCG model like I've done with the Lat model, but it will probably be difficult(the Lat model was easy because it has a single color for its skin, few lighting settings, and simple shadows).

Videos related.
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm15091677
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm15164587 (this guy is amazing...)

Unlike the lat model, I might not be able to distribute that, though... seems he doesn't want people to change the model although he doesn't mind redistribution.

In other MMD-related news...
1. There has been a new MMD in development, tentatively titled MMDSharp or MMD# or MMD丼. It's very early in the development stages so there's not much to look at.

2. A plugin came out awhile ago which I forgot to mention. It's rather amazing, almost on the level of the physics addon I've been ranting about(which I got working, by the way--turns out the problem was simple). It automatically adds several bone types to a model, but most importantly for TDCG models, it adds a bone that cancels out the motion of the hips to the legs(meaning there's no IK bone hell whenever you want to move the hips), a bone for moving the model's toes, and a new leg parent bone which makes moving the legs much easier. It also adds a special type of arm twisting bone and several others. Weights are added automatically.

i've had these for quite some time, but i just remembered them and figured somebody here might be able to get some use out of these:

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm14977206

it's a compilation of around 50 or so motions for walking, running, and skipping.

links are here
http://www1.axfc.net/uploader/He/so/314621&key=39
and here
http://www1.axfc.net/uploader/He/so/331464&key=39

you may or may not like any of them but it's fairly easy to manipulate repeated animations just by multiplying rotation angles. at the very least it's a lot easier than doing it from scratch.

looks like there's a new MMD board on mikuchan called MMD & Animation under the off-topic section. it's only a day old or so and not very lively yet, but it'd be good to have an imageboard more or less dedicated to mmd.

if you're interested in mmd, go check it out and tell other people who might be interested about it; it might decrease posts here, but i'd like to see the board be successful. it seems like a difficult task at best, though.

at the very least, if you have a question about MMD try posting it there. not sure if it's acceptable to post a link, but just googling mikuchan should be enough to find it.

don't take this the wrong way, but i can probably understand your cynicism more than anyone else, and unrelated to my point, i used to think i'd never like vocaloid myself. i'm not going to push anyone onto the site, but i will be posting there and any community on an anonymous image board would be better than what's currently in existence. might as well try and see what can be done.

any post would help right now, especially regarding mmd's use. i guess i can't ask people to help what seems like a lost cause, but i can't say there's anything to lose, either. i'm just hoping the occasion of the mmd cup can be used to generate some activity.

in any case, in addition to the japanese i would like some form of an english community, but right now it's pretty much deviantart or nothing. it's an understatement to say i don't like that, so i'll take any step i can to build a community somewhere else, and i'd rather it be an imageboard than a forum.

this is labelled as "sailor shirt for big breasts," so i thought it would be an update to the old one, but it's completely different aside from look. it looks nice standing still, but tears easily and doesn't even fit big breasts. he also got rid of the way it hung off the breasts like nodoka from saki's shirt... oh well.

sorry, i don't know what you're talking about. are you complaining that you have to use maketah or just remarking on the size?

many of the body mods should just be unzippable and usable right away. i included them as i found them. i made it so that there are a lot of body mods to start off with in one place; if i made a folder you could extract into your arcs folder right away the download would have been much more massive, i believe.

does that set of bodies that's so large even come with a preview?

this is a huge part of why i use mmd.

no, there is no easy way to move the ass. it's done by rotating the body relative to the ass.

well, that was one of my only real dissatisfactions with the system aside from limited undo/redo and the lack of good organization of saved poses. at least, relative to other h-game posers i've tried.

tdcg requires time and is primarily about the mods and 3rd party programs.

if you're in this for hardcore sex or a gameplay element, you're probably better off with cm3d, age3, etc. but in the end, this is better for character creation provided you can't do your own modelling from scratch.

The center one is far too wasp-waisted, and the one on the right has too over-exaggerated hips, so the one on the left looks the best by default. Her bottom seems slimmer than the other two; it might look better sized up slightly, if that can be done without increasing the hip size.

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure if I'll follow your advice or not, since people have said various things about the different models(And I'm fine, or actually aiming for, a bit of exaggeration so long as it doesn't look like a western exaggerated cartoon... although I was/am worried she had started to after the left one).

The middle is kind of my favorite(or rather it's the most well done in various ways), but I do agree her waist might be too thin(which is actually why I made the right model). Although, I've found that part of the reason I perceive that is that her hips are so wide.

The left one's bottom and hips are significantly smaller than the other two. I will probably either attempt to do what you've said, try to increase the middle one's waist width, or keep them as they are and let people choose from alternatives. Going with the left model would be kind of painful because I'd have to remake it.

I was dead tired when I was posted that, so I haven't done anything yet, but here's an actual video I've been working on for a few days. It's just a preview and I'm not done with it yet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2BI6LFbjzQ

Models used are the middle model from last video and the sister character. As I said I have yet to do anything with her proportions since I went to bed right after posting >>7800411 while uploading this.

I started making it to try to make a camera motion for Sweet Magic. I'm open to suggestions as to what to do with it if anyone cares, especially regarding the camera(in particular I'm worried there are a few places it rotates too fast or my use of perspective may disorient the viewer). I couldn't help myself with some of the closeups at the end, but I'll probably change those when I distribute the camera motion.

I only did this after writing the all the above, but here's a preliminary attempt at widening the middle one's waist. Not sure if it would be enough or if it's even more appealing.

I gave it an honest shot and this is more or less what I came up with. Her hips are thinner, her waist is thicker, and her ass should be somewhere between the small one and the huge one.

Hope this looks better. I pretty much knew what the complaints were going to be in the first place. Personally, my only "complaint" is the angle of the ass, but it's not my preferred body type and I probably won't use it in my own video.

Kind of feels bad to be doing this when I'm never going to use it myself and she's not likely to get much use.

In any case, thanks for the frank opinion. I don't think I'll be recreating that video unless you really liked it, it was made for the purpose of getting feedback and had a lot of problems(like her foot twisting).

I sometimes think it's a little boring that MMD models all fall into the lines of "average". I seem to be in the minority, but I go to fantasy to see things that go beyond real life. In any case, I'll probably distribute this one and the third model in that video.

it is without a doubt the best body mod to have ever come out for tdcg. although that shot doesn't seem to show its special shading(it has a certain luster to it, not quite like normal highlights/shine but similar), which is half the appeal of the mod.

i wish there was a version whose breasts worked well with tmoproportion, though(not to mention a version more like the normal body type).

Anyway, if you want to try the NJXA body, here is my folder with the mods related. Sadly, not a lot.

Also, for loli stuff, the first post there contains a list of mods related:

mme may not work on your computer/with your graphics card, but that doesn't sound like it's the case.

dof doesn't work after what i told you? try TrueCamera for depth of field. that is very easy to use, just attach it to the body part of accessory you want to be focused on.

rain is literally just drag and drop. if by leaf drops, you mean the GodRay effect, that one is complicated to use but i can explain it.

True camera does the same thing, the landscape effect is everywhere (not the backstage only) and the motion blur isn't motion blur, it look like a effect for a good fucked up scene.

>> No.7813073 [DELETED]

well, i don't really intend to argue with you about it, but it is soboro's motion blur effect is motion blur by the exact definition. perhaps you're using the wrong one? there are actually two motion blur effects, not including truecamera; one is actually just an afterimage effect, which is not motion blur.

alternatively, if your computer isn't putting out enough FPS it will look really exaggerated; if that happens you might try turning down the si and tr values of the accessory.

to get this scene, i simply loaded the stage, the model, and then drag and dropped truecamera. as you can see, the background is blurred but the foreground is not. if it doesn't work like this for you, i can only imagine it must be a problem with your system and i can't help you.

learning mme does take time; if you want to focus on animations, do that. i can guarantee every effect i've distributed works, though, at least on my system.

if you haven't tinkered with the effect at all, then yeah, it looks like there's some kind of problem with your system. perhaps your graphics card isn't capable of handling pixel shader 3, ps3 appears to be what the error is coming from. sorry i can't help.

from what you've said it seems like there are some effects you've been able to use, but if you're getting errors like that(i've never seen that) it's probably best not to try too hard at effects that don't seem to work, unless you can buy another computer or google the error and figure it out.

For those of us who have a 32GB mess of an arcs directory and want to know which icon in 3dcg means which TAH file, there's an easy way to tell. I felt like documenting it since most people won't know about it.
- Download Process Monitor http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
- Set the 3DCG config file to windowed mode and start 3DCG.
- Start Process Monitor.
- In process monitor, press CTRL+L, then set up the filters like in this picture.
- The main window of process monitor will show every file access in chronological order. Note that just scrolling the interface causes file a access.

wow, nice. the colors in this are very beautiful and that's a good outfit. the only thing i would really ask for is a bit more exaggeration on the expression.

i have to ask, though: doesn't the shading on the face bother you a little bit? i don't think the nose should be casting a shadow over half of the face like that, supposing a real human face given the apparent angle of the light(this isn't a criticism but a lead-in to something i want to discuss). if that doesn't bother you or you think it's right, don't worry about it, i like the picture either way(i'm not saying that just to be encouraging).

and as to mediafire, i've posted a link since then and it hasn't been deleted yet. it seems reasonable to imagine that they simply found that something unmoderatable had been going on and did a site-wide URL-filter wipe or something like that.

>> No.7829368

> doesn't the shading on the face bother you a little bit?

Everything about shading and faces bothers me a lot, but there's only so much I can figure out how to correct, unfortunately.
These models weren't made for real shading, and this way of drawing 2d characters was never meant to map cleanly to 3d objects anyway.

i imagine you're not a Lat model fan or else you would probably have asked how to make one.

however, even if you're not going for a flat, 2D look like the Lat model has, you should be able to lessen that problem easily.

if you open up PMDEditor and select your model's face material(s), the values and textures(respectively) i've circled in red should relate to how the model takes on light and shadow. tampering with these values should help you tune your models to alleviate or fix that look, and once you learn to do it with one model you should be able to do it with any/all of them.

as an extreme example(similar to one i actually use), setting all specular(if i remember right) values to 0, removing the sphere map, and setting the toon texture to a blank white one(toon10 is always blank white) should result in a face that more or less takes on light the same all around it, so long as you do it for all facial materials. i don't think stripping it completely like that is necessary, but you'd probably need to experiment to find something you like.

it's been a long time since i did any of this, but if you don't want to eliminate the facial shadow to lessen it, you may have to open up the face's toon texture and change where the texture turns from light to dark. i hope that makes sense.

sorry if you already knew this stuff or i'm offering unwanted advice.

ah, sorry, it might have been misleading but the main texture under "Texture" is not going to change the way the model is accepts/reflects light. that's just the texture used in the standard UV. the toon texture(dropdown box) will.

Guys, I finally decided to boot it up after maybe six months of not playing it, and...

It doesn't work. It loads up, the screen goes black, then the program stops working.

I remember it working pretty perfectly the last time I tried it, so I have no clue as to what's wrong. I tried removing the most recently-added files, but that fixed nothing. I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Does anyone have a quick fix off-hand for me? I think it might have something to do with the obsDX9.exe file that you click on to boot the game, since I remember messing with that quite a bit a while ago...can anyone help me?

Not exactly sure what it all means, but I'll try out these modifications and see what happens, thanks.

>>7829584
Unresponsive black screen, or was there also an error message or crash dialog?
Random quick fixes:
- Try a recovery arcs folder, containing only base.tah, base_xp.tah, base_xpr1.tah, base_xpr2.tah, base_xpr3.tah, and base_xpr4.tah
- Delete your config file (documents\techarts3d\tdcg\settings.ini)
- Make sure to run with locale Japanese if using mods

Thanks for the help!

I tried those things, and both 2 and 3 did not work.

However! I replaced the ObsDX9 with the one from the original install.

It actually loaded! However, I it was censored, missing most of my mods, and I couldn't load any of those green .png save files. Also, a few of the poses would crash it.

So that's the problem. The only thing I need now is a new ObsDX9 file.

Is there a place where I can get the latest one that works with ToonShader and all that.

I think this torrent should contain it: http://www.mediafire.com/?6rrxdgx8ka1stkt
Make sure to only select the file you need, it's a huge torrent.

If it is, I wouldn't know where to find it. Everything's packaged up in .rars, so I can't browse it.

Can't a kind soul just upload theirs? It's less than a megabyte....

Do you have base_xpr4.tah in your arcs dir?
If not you can not run the latest version.
A version update is comprised of a tah file and a new exe, and every version of the exe is available with a decensor.
The version I uploaded is the latest, XP4R1, and you need all the TAH files in >>7829637 to run it. You should start by downloading updates instead of making a fresh install,

I have all the .tah files you mentioned. All of them.

Maybe it's a recent mod that interfering with it?

heh, sorry. i'm pretty sure i'm losing english ability over time.

i really just wanted to convey that experimenting with the
1. toon texture and its light>dark areas
2. specular values
3. sphere map(remove it?)
of the face meshes may help you with those facial shadows.

Sorry to bother you, but can you help me with something else?

...where exactly can I get all the upgrades? The XP1 through 4 files, I mean.

I checked at http://tech3d.sakura.ne.jp/3dcustom/c_xp/3dxp.html, but I can decipher what exactly I need from there.

I think I found the problem.

It's XPr3. It immediately crashes when I try to use it. XPr2 and below work perfectly fine, however.

Is this a common problem?

Is there a way to make this game 3D?

I mean REAL 3D, like red-and-blue-glasses 3D, or crossing-your-eyes 3D. The Stereoscopic stuff.

Is there?

Hi 3dcg thread, have a bump.

I've always wondere, is this how 3DCG is supposed to look? Most of the screenshots i've seen are nicely rendered, antialiased and without these completely white areas in the skin (pic related) but i'm not sure if that's 3DCG or MMD. I've just upgraded to XP r4.1 and installed toonshader2 expecting an improvement, but it looks the same. Am I doing anything wrong?

>> No.7841682

>>7841642
Yeah, it's MMD.
But change your body mod and you'll have something better (search links in the archive or on hongfire).

>> No.7841772

this thread is almost two months old...

does anyone have good motion files, or know of a good source of them, in poser or bvh formats? or really, any other formats.

i've found a way to convert poser+bvh files to .vmd format for use with MMD, but i don't really know of very many sources. especially for erotic animations.

i've found some and i've had a few good results, but it's mostly been hit and miss at best.

>>7841642
well, it may be mmd you're referring to or not.

--posts with the OP girl in them are pretty much all MMD.
--posts made by this guy >>7829041 are MMD+image editing.
--all other posts are TDCG.

you shouldn't really have a problem with TDCG and antialiasing, so that's a problem on your end if you're not getting it. you should be able to force it with your graphics card settings.

the white spots on the body come from the body mod, not the game. you can either edit the body mod or you can use a different one(the latter being my suggestion--i can't stand the default bodies).

>> No.7841774

>>7841642
3DCG unmodded is not worth bothering with. Shinies everywhere, only darker-skinned bodies don't look sick, and no clothes beyond school uniform, swimsuits, and a handful of fetish outfits.

it doesn't work in tso2pmx either.

i tried putting it into Blender and had some success with that, but i have no idea how to make it so blender actually exports(or imports, for that matter) things with texturing. it's just a grey model.

i even tried grabbing the original 3ds model, but that still doesn't have texturing in Blender after conversion and moreover doesn't work in MMD when converted to .x.

not really sure what to do. at the very least i need a way to import the model into with texturing. i watched a few videos and it looks like it should be automatic.
