Since this thread is off topic I might as well post this off topic question i've had for a long time in the back of my head.... If someone learns a language, possibly to the point that it becomes the main language they speak (or the only language they speak), do the think in that language? Do humans think in a language or is it just a figment of our imagination that we think in a language?

I kinda think that I know what you mean. I personally am too lazy to become fluent in a language other than english but I do know some french, italian, spanish, russian, german (a little bit of high and low german) and a tad bit of Japanese (im horrible at memorizing kanji). Anyways back to my point, sometimes I think in another language and then sometimes Im like... wait... what the hell was that. Then I realize it wasn't english and of course I do know what it was.

Speaking of languages, one of the reasons I don't speak with people is I have a speech impairment. Some sounds are off and always will be, not to mention I have no pitch control, its either monotone or the pitch is all over the place... not to mention it often sounds like im asking a question when im not (pitch rises at the end of a sentence). Anyways, the way some sounds are off makes people think I've got an accent. I am Canadian... i might have a tad bit of an accent but nothing unusual in my area. However, I've had people think that I have one of the following accents: English, Scottish, "british" (they need to learn about accents), Irish, texas (I really dont know how they thought that one) or once even a russian accent. For a "multicultural" country they sure are ignorant about other countries and their accents. Im no pro on accents but I can safely say that If I had one I would know.

Why do people want to learn more than one language? It's ridiculous. It's certainly not edifying. The only reason I can think of is to want to be part of another culture. Trust me, they're all the same. There is NOTHING to learn from other cultures. You have NOTHING to gain. There are no rewards; no boundaries to cross, no knowledge to be extracted -- NOTHING!

It helps getting a job. I speak 4 languages, that looks very nice on a CV.

>> No.7637080

1. Download anki ( http://ankisrs.net/ )
2. Install/Open, File-->Download-->Shared Deck
3. Get the 'Japanese Kana' deck and the 'Kanjidamage' deck
4. Memorize the Kana 1st, then the Kanji
5. Then learn the grammer ( http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar )

On proper pronunciation, this will tell you how to pronounce the A, I, E, U, O. The rest are pretty straight except the R's.

In a country that has more than one language (canada in my example), you can be ignorant and know only french and not be able to to talk to a large majority of the people (in canada and in the world) or you could know only English and live fine (i do believe they teach some french in schools these days). None the less by knowing french as well as English you would get payed more for most jobs.

I do believe however If the Quebecois want to speak French (their version of French none the less) they should just separate from Canada. I kid you not that 98% of fraud comes from Quebec. Instead of a normal 5 minute check for fraud at my work when dealing with a normal client we have to spend about 1 hour to two hours if they client is based in Quebec.

Thats how I did it:
1.Buy Heisigs Kana + Kanji books.
2.Register at http://kanji.koohii.com/ for the Kana book and review like a madmen.
3.Register at iknow.jp for 10$ a month. It's very easy to lern new words + you hear sample sentences.
4.Register at japanesepod101 for hundreds of podcasts, again for about 7$ a month.
5.Buy The Genki Grammarbook.

>>7637080
I don't think you can learn japanese with just anki and grammar.
But everybody is different I guess.
