I'm going to take it easy and beat it at my own pace. At my pace though, that'll probably be a few months.

It's really weird that Extras are considered hard by anyone. Even when viewing Youtube videos of shmups that took several years from release to be cleared for the first time, no mistake, someone is going to tell how IN's Extra tops that in difficulty, even though it's nowhere near even some stuff among the Touhou franchise, let alone some abominations that are meant to be hard, not pretty.

I think Extras are difficult in the sense that they're legitimately challenging and aren't poorly scripted. The other shmups you're talking about aren't even fair (read: broken), let alone fun. I don't consider nigh-patternless waves of ridiculously dense randomly generated bullet spam to be 'difficult'.

Touhou extra stages are not that bad. The one thing that might throw you off at he beginning is the realization that you can't just bomb away cards you don't like.
most Hard / Lunatic modes are far worse actually.

and other shmups extra modes?

Pic related, a clusterfuck

I'll never surrender to that opinion. THat's where the true difficulty lies.
Granted, shit like Smash TV is just stupid difficult because it's meant to choke quarters out of you, but games where you need good luck AND skill to survive are much more entertaining and less repetitive.

>> No.7601736

I havent beaten any of the touhou games yet.

Fixed that for you. And really? Not repetitive just because it's practically completely random? Do you also enjoy those dungeon crawlers with randomly generated dungeons because each time you enter a dungeon it's 'unique'?

Honestly, if you want to play something that legitimately requires both luck and (more) skill you're best off playing against other players in fighting or online shooting games.

>> No.7601754

What games took "years" to beat? Even the hardest of the hard games like Mushi Futari 1.5 Ultra or Daioujou White Label 2-ALL took less than a year IIRC.

>> No.7601768

>>7601754
Woops, I forgot that it took MON 7 years to beat DOJ Death Label, but that's an extra mode on the PS2 port. And I don't think anyone has beaten Futari 1.0 Ultra either, but there's a reason why they made version 1.5...

Piss on that idea. I've been hooked on shmups for 20 years now, I'm not about to change gears. Shmups are rarely if ever completely random (I've never encountered one that is, anyway), but randomness of enemy shots within the framework of established enemy patterns is not an impossible or even extremely frustrating task for me.

And actually, I do enjoy randomly generated dungeons, even if it does somewhat limit certain aspects of the game.

Not the guy you're responding to, but you've obviously never played a CAVE game.

>> No.7601817

Suit yourself bro. I don't mind *some* random bullets with patterns either, in fact it can actually make the game more fun. But when there's more random bullets than there is patterns, it just becomes lame. It feels less like a shmup and more like a "how long can you survive?" newgrounds flash to me. And in response to your previous 'pretty' comment, what's wrong with that? I hate it when every bullet in a shmup is the same damn color (usually purple).

In any case it just seems like a difference in tastes.

>> No.7601842

>>7601796
I can't think of any Cave games that have anything truly random in them. Some bosses or mid-bosses have multiple attacks that they can choose from, but all of that is based off of hidden timers, so it's not random at all.

>> No.7601848

>>7601842
Wait, I guess suicide bullets (like in Ketsui loop 2) can appear random, but again, they're not. They're just messy as fuck.

>> No.7601877

>>7601842
Yeah, multiple attacks that are made up of bullets fired at random angles (and sometimes speeds) from one or more points.
