..ya know what? I recently won some money and decided to buy AH3 with it to complete my collection of competent fightans for PS3....and you know...

Arcana Heart 3 is actually pretty damn fun. Much more fun then I originally thought I was gonna have with it.

..also, Fiona is awesome for doing 50%+ damage on counter hits

Like in many fighting games, the slower characters like Fiona are great in low-level play but get worse against experienced players. You get zoned out easily, have to work harder to get in a combo and the other characters usually catch up in damage with advanced combos. Fiona's wakeup game on both sides is not the best either.

Doesn't stop random EXCALIBUR from being legit though.

Delayed until the 20th of August.
The package is great and all, and now they will apparently add some kind of tidbit extra due to it having been delayed even more.

But I am sort of wondering if I am every going to get to play the game...
This bundled pack still looks great though, but you guys better keep playing until then.

I say the pace of high level Arcana play is quite nice.
But I suppose it all comes down to preferences and opinions in the end.
It isn't that much slower than other fighters though, I would argue that it's relatively marginal if anything.

>>7607667

Technically it's true, but there's a reason for it

TL:DR version - Sony is a dick

Medium version
Sony owns about 60% of all the manufacturers of Blu-Ray discs and charges expensive licensing fees for the other 40%
Sony thinks they should make a profit off of the manufacture of Blu-Ray discs

One would assume that making a profit off of the sale of the discs and licensing pretty much all the content/players would be enough but what do I know.

Hence it's more expensive to make games for the PS3 than the 360 purely from a manufacturing angle
Also there's the fact that Sony charges for a Devkit while Microsoft doesn't (however Microsoft also has an entire shitload of terms and conditions you must comply with otherwise they will yank out their kit and try to sue you for ownership of the game you made, they pulled this crap a lot in the X-box era which is why a lot of the smaller dev teams disappeared[ it's also why I laughed when Japanese devs just used the 360 as a beta platform before rolling it out on another])

It should be noted that DVDs are now cheap as hell to produce it costs about 25 cents to make a DVD and the most expensive part is finding someone with the capabilities to do wide scale manufacturing.

On a side note: Am I the only one still irritated that Aksys didn't even release a strategy guide with this game? It seems obvious that with a download only fighting game with a non-standard fighting system you would try to sell something physical that would explain game mechanics and easy techniques to new players.

But no, they won't then they'll wonder why it doesn't sell well.

>But no, they won't then they'll wonder why it doesn't sell well.
Their minds have been damaged by the otherwise unfathomable "sucess" that is Steam or whatever.

Steam is killing the industry, by making it stronger, yet corrupted on the inside.

>> No.7609503

>>7609452
There's a really good strategy guide for fighters out there that's free, and it's called the fucking Internet. I don't understand why anyone would use anything else for any game, but fighting strategies are developed by the communities in the first place so I can't even imagine how an official guide could provide that. Mizuumi has everything you could need.

>Whatever point you think you're making is not self-evident, please explain.
Steam sells, steam sells good, great in fact.
Despite no physical products whatsoever, and prices that haven't been noticably lower despite cutting all the cuts from physical publishing and distrubution.

This have had an influence on companies in where they more and more reveres digital products higher, all the while they deem physical products lower.

That's why you don't get a physical anything for Arcana Heart in the US.

>> No.7609830

>>7607645
It's not. Every PS3 fighting game, aside from MK2 and Tekken 5 DR, is on the 360. On the other hand, the 360 has quite a few exclusive fighting games, like Dead or Alive 4, tons of old SNK games with online play, Samurai Shodown Sen, Phantom Breaker, the Umineko fighter, and so on.

Arcana Heart 3 is on the 360 in Japan and Europe, it's only NA that's not getting it.

>> No.7609868

>>7609700
Actually, Aksys isn't publishing it in NA because the minimum print run for 360 games is too high (around 50,000 I think). They don't think they'll be able to sell enough copies to make a profit. They've said so themselves.

And unlike the PS3, Microsoft has (had?) a rule in place, where if you wanted to release your game digitally through their Games on Demand service, it -has- to have had a physical release prior to that. But they've just recently made an exception for Death Smiles 2X, and the Resident Evil HD games are going to be GoD as well, so maybe things are starting to change.

First I think it's incredibly cute (in a 3-legged puppy sort of way not an attractive girl wants to spend time with you way) that you think strategies only come from the game communities. You seem to be completely ignoring how, in game development, characters need to be constantly tested and balanced to prevent whatever the hell you'd call MUGEN. That the testers would have some experience with the game designs and character design and would not pass that information on to any guide writers or handle it in house seems simply ludicrous.

Also you seem to be implying that I want that wide variance in quality that comes with internet guides. One guide I read, had an analytical insight that rivaled on obscene and some of the most carefully written explanations that I ever had the pleasure of reading. Another guide had 4 Chuck Norris jokes in the first paragraph and featured the phrase "then you just mash all the buttons down adn he like explodes and shit." Maybe it's just me but I feel that when introducing a new fighting game series (because let's be honest I don't think Arcana Heart sold exceptionally well) I feel you should be bending over backwards to accommodate new players with how-to guides and basic information.

Compare it with Street Fighter IV, Capcom designed this game with new players in mind, it features an intro guide to all the basic special moves plus intro combos. I may not know a lot of people who beat all those tutorials but I do know a lot of people who learned not to use a jump-in combo against a crouching Guile and decent follow-ups for a lucky attack.

Aksys' handling of this game reeks more of "There's it translated you happy yet?"

It just seems all kinds of screwed up to me.

XBLA has a hard 2.0GB limit, there's nothing they can do about that. The Games on Demand service on the other hand (where full retail games get released digitally) doesn't have a maximum file size limit, to my knowledge. Although I'm not sure if any multi-disc games (like Lost Odyssey) have been released on there - that might cause problems.

>> No.7610336

>>7610090
The problem is that people always find ways to break games that the devs never thought of. Part of it is the difficulty of making unique yet balanced characters, sure (sometimes a balance flaw is obvious but there's no way to fix it without making the character OP), and other times they're just not aware of a problem until players get their hands on it (i.e. Carl's claptrap).

An official strategy guide will know what the game designers intended, but not what players have discovered over time.
