I am pretty new to VNs but I recently downloaded Clannad. In all honesty I isn't very fun. Does it take a while to pick up, or are all VNs like this? Was it a poor choice for entry level? are there better ones?

Anyway, Clannad is really long and relatively slow. I wouldn't really recommend it to beginners for those reasons, but it's definitely a classic.

CLANNAD is good provided you like to read 800+ pages books.

For entry level recommendations you can always check /a/ or /v/, they all read the same 3 or 4 VNs and seem to be pretty satisfied so far.

The key to enjoying VNs is to read what you find interesting. So if you don't feel like CLANNAD'ing then check vndb.org and find something more exciting.

If you are from /v/ try something with nice gameplay like Sengoku Rance or Galaxy Angel.
