It was more in jest, to be honest it's a "can't be helped" situation since WoD is quite vast and every "modern supernatural" setting will resemble it in some way or another unless the creator goes out of his way to avoid that.

For example, both MtA and Nasuverse have magi who try to reach Akasha/Ascension while running everything behind the scenes as the major power not even vampires can dick around with and use a form of magic that focuses on punching out other people's wills with their own until they convince reality that they can really shoot thunderbolts from their dick, so long as they can avoid the World/Paradox trying to bash their faces in.

the Clock Tower in London, it's basically one big university/research facility for magi. Also most magi with lineage learn from their parents and the private workshop they have.
There are also a couple of big place who can rival with the Clock Tower, the Sea of Estrey organization in eastern europe and Atlas in Egypt/middle east.
