So apparently you guys are the place to go for VNs?

Is there a specific one (or a couple) that are pretty much universally considered to be really good? I'm not new to anime, but I've never played a VN before and I'd like to try, so of course I'd like to start with the best.

Also, where would I get it and how would I run it?

Technically yes, but this seems to be more suited for /jp/ than /v/. Also:

Entry-level VNs are Tsukihime, Saya no Uta, Kana Imouto, Yume Miru Kusumi, etc.

Try out any of those. After you finish those, move onto Fate/Stay Night and Sharin no Kuni, and whatever you see being posted on /jp/.

After that, begin to develop your own thoughts on what to play. Use VNDB and other resources.

http://vnddl.webs.com/list.txt
Use this link for downloading VNs. Some will have english patches, others, you'll have to hunt for.

And one thing I cannot stress is lurk the FUCK more if you plan on staying on /jp/. Learn the culture, observe VNs that are commonly discussed and try them out for yourself.

On another note, VNs won't install properly without applocale or setting your system locale to Japanese. You can find tutorials on Google.

Great, now don't come back until you've finished 10+ eroge. Go ahead and make your Saya no Uta and Yume Miru Kusuri threads on /a/ or /v/, we don't want them here.

>> No.7507499

>>7507482
Also, this. You're going to get flamed if you post that stuff on /jp/. Really, /a/ and /v/ do not mind occasional VN threads (in fact, I think /v/ has VN generals every now and then).

Thanks, that'll probably help me down the road.

Interesting. I don't really spend much time on /v/, but /a/ is one of my home boards and I never see much VN discussion there.

>> No.7507555

>>7507531
Well, /jp/ was created to stop VNs, Touhou, and the like from filling /a/, but entry level VNs (Saya no Uta, Tsukihime, YMK, etc) can get some attention in the occasional threads that pop up in /a/. You can try to make a thread in /jp/, but in case you haven't noticed yet, most of /jp/ is very hostile and aggressive towards those who come from other boards or aren't regulars.

Check this picture out.
Also I liked Ever17, MuvLuv (and Alternative), Eien no Aselia (it's actually an RPG game, still very fun) and Sharin no Kuni the most so far.

>> No.7507578

I'd stay away from Clannad or Fate/Stay Night. I've played VNs and jesus fuck you are not ready for all that reading and clicking.

>>7507436
He has it right. I'd put in Kana Little Sister, not my personal fav, but it gets good reviews, and the routes are pretty simple. Sagara Family for entry level Hentai VN, and fucking True Love because everyone loves True Love.

>> No.7507603

For me, Ever17 was by far the best VN i've ever played. I'd highly recommend starting with it.

I never finished Kana Little Sister, because I raged hard at Kana's sex scenes and how the MC turned into a complete dick.

That is a really bad chart. There are more than a few landmine titles in there, and the categorization is totally off.

you can press enter. In some games even the space bar does it, but it usually hides the text window.

And your point is? Muvluv and Alternative are easily over 100 hours of reading and I still think they are very very good.
If you don't like READING, then why go with VNs? Kinda defeats the point, you know.

Probably not really a great chart but some key names are on it, and they are usually a common topic on other boards, occasionally.

My first eroge was Tsukihime, and that was fairly long. Unless you have the attention span of a newt, it isn't difficult to play a single game over an extended period of time.

>> No.7507727

>>7507709
Because OP said he wanted to start with the best.
I know this is subjective, but even vndb agrees that MLA is "the best".
While it's long, it's really enjoyable and interesting, especially the Alternative.

Although other stuff was already mentioned which take about 15-20 hours to complete and are still good, so why are you even complaining?
