Seems they nixed 3d backgrounds during h-scenes in order to improve performance.

While sex options in any particular phase were not different from any other illusion game, but it had good clothes customisation, score system that actually made the sex interesting and made player play through different stages and advancing arousal so that new options/positions were available after specific actions, and unique for illusion games sex options.

Schoolmate 2 was as much a "game" as Schoolmate:Sweets. it could as well just be released as video DVD and it would make no difference.

This was kind of surprising for me too. I don't really care that much about anal and don't care at all about gay sex. But I figured that they'd have anal since illusion is normally very lazy with it. They just reuse animations and have the dick pointing at a slightly different spot. And if they had anal, gay sex would most likely just be a simple model swap. I don't know why people always get upset at Illusion games. Yes, they seemingly forget every good mechanic with each game, but so what? Aren't we used to this by now? What the fuck do you expect from a absolutely tiny game studio that makes fap games?

I kinda of think it's amazing they've managed to make games this good with the size of their development team and extremely fast development cycle. Yes, it would be nice if they actually learned, but it's been shown enough times that they don't.

Yes and no. I've cracked open the data files and look at some of how it works. Unfortunately there's nothing specifically regarding clothing in the maker program (obviously), but it looks like the bodies are changed via bone modification (which is also how SBZ's body changing was done). Clothes can be handled through bone modification as well, so there shouldn't be a need to create sets for thin/mid/fat bodies.

That said, there are two issues. One is that the small, mid and tall bodies (for frmales and males) have separate meshes, so clothing would require them too.

I think the reason for the small amount of clothing is due to a changing of priorities in the game's development - with static 2D backgrounds, it seems like, at least for this game, Illusion's artists were either understaffed or focused on something else (possibly being shifted to doing behaviour scripting). It should be noted though that School Mate 2 had even less clothing customisation.

Illusion is a niche (PC games in Japan) in a niche (high-end 3D games) in a niche (eroge). They HAVE to use this business model simply because their audience is miniscule.

If it weren't for the success of AG2, they'd have folded up then. They were on a knifeedge at that point, and as far as I've heard from 2ch, they're not doing a hell of a lot better now.

Its pretty easy to just pick one of the voices and then build a character around that. Most are really generic but at least you can customize how you'd like them to look.

Yes and no. All the global data is loaded from the game files, but the individual characteristics - hair style/color, height, and the rest - is in the png, yes.

Which is obnoxious because it means if you want to mod it, you have to mod one of the three global presets - short girl, medium girl, and tall girl, and all girls of that height will receive the changes.
Compare to AG3, where each character file was self-contained to the point of not even needing the mod to use the modded file.
