To return on the topic, Ever17 was good but far from being perfect.
The first four routes were weak, only Tsugumi's route was salvageable. The pacing was off, it had too much repetition and they were ultimately not very moving.
Now Coco's route was awesome but it really really lacked subtlety, all the revelation was jumbled into one part and the ending wasn't as good as the rest route.
It's like the writer had some really good ideas but didn't know how to deliver them properly, it's still very good though.
For my suggestion of best route, the normal ending of Swan Song was great.

Agreed with those two (the poor pacing left me bored at times; there's a reason why I took breaks that lasted for a month or two in between a couple of the routes; it gets awesome, but when its not being awesome, it can get boring; most of the sandwich eating scenes come to mind), not so much with the rest.

Why are you complaining about "lack of subtlety"? Is there something wrong with explaining everything outright rather than leaving it up to the reader to notice what's going on and leaving a bunch of gray areas all over the place? Not that there's anything wrong with that if its done right, but there's nothing wrong with explaining everything, either.

And that "one part" consisted of about 1/3rd of the route (the route seemed to be split up into hints, foreshadowing, and the usual stuff -> revelations -> solutions), and its not like it was all jumbled together with such brief mentions and emphasis that the reader needs to go back and make sure that they just read right. It was well paced. Also having brick-shitting revelation after brick-shitting revelation followed by interesting and sometimes brick-shitting solutions is what makes Coco's route so awesome.
