If you search artists from the official CGs and so on can you find that alot of the Wei characters, and so on have been made by someone called Kantaka, while a person called Hikage Eiji have made alot of CGs for Wu. etcetera.

So, I finally finished this.
1. The game is quite dull until like, the fourth war.
2. The voicepatch really does define enjoyment from this game.
3. How the hell can they create so many lovable characters?
Usually I like about one or two characters out of... a ten that a VN throws at me. This game has what? 24? Yet I love them all dearly.

Dear god, I guess I have to actually buy the game. Sort of against it since there's no official voice patch, but if it gives hope for Shin to be released.... I guess it's worth it.

If you're referring to the currently translated Koihime, it took me quite a while. While the story is fairly short, the character clears take a long time (compared to the story, that is).

Thing is for the main game is that. To see all endings you need to play 4 times I believe. There are three standard endings and one fourth one that you unlock after seeing all three endings.


But overall. The game is always the same and so is the story. Only differences are the home base phases. So if you're replaying the game just to see other characters routes so can you just speed through the main story just to get to the home base phases.
After beating the game once so can you even skip battles and so on.

Each playthrough you can "clear" 2 out of the 3 main heroines so you'll need 2 playthroughs to get to see all three. Right, the short version is this:

It's fairly long, roughly 5-6 for the common route while the sub girls will take you about 1-2 hours worth of reading each, the main girls having much longer arcs will take you about 3-4 hours worth of reading per girl (Unless you're like me and skip most of Chouhi's story, nothing against her as a character but while reading her sex scenes I had the strangest feeling Chris Hansen was going to show up). These number vary depending on your reading speed, of course, and whether or not you listen to the voices but as a rough guide it still fits.

It will take you about 3 play throughs to 100% the game largely because you'll get new girls later on but still not be finished other girls routes, the game is pretty forgiving with the fact that you can hop off a route to visit a new girl once, then hop back on but aside from that the easiest way to clear a route is to doggedly pursue a woman the moment she's unlocked.

To be fair you really shouldn't rush this game, all the heroines are likable, the world is fully fleshed out and its' one of the more all-around enjoyable VNs released. Besides rushing means you get to the ending, which is not very good.

Although depending on your point of view the ending is either
A) A fairly deep and interesting look at the mechanics behind most eroge worlds
B) A total cop-out that's somehow worse because someone though this was deep. It should have been a magic dragon or something.

It was really freaky because Ren was a real monster in combat. Everyone else I can accept, but why did Ren just vanish? Even as a raging berserker, Shuri surely could've employed tactics with her.

Actually one of the ones I really liked was Shion's ending. Mainly because if you started her route the minute she unlocked by the time her endings is near Kazuto starts acting far more concerned for the well-being of the main girls and stops acting nearly as much as a cowardly idiot as he did earlier. It's kind of nice to think his maturity in one route gets reflected in another. Unless you start a new route, then it all goes out the window.

I'm not sure about that, if Baseson makes another game that features the story or at least expansions for their PSP release, it might get another show, if not then probably not.

But you have to remember that Koihime anime is a victim of the Moeboom and a lot of studios aren't going to consider it worth the risk to bring it back since it consist of generic moe action. Even though most of the fans know that there is far more to it than that and a recreation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms with cute girls is an idea made of victory.

Actually she appears in Sui route because Sekito is the panty thief, what makes it really frustrating is that Sekito also appears in Yue and Ei's route, which means her dog has more route appearances than her! Another frustrating thing was that her two events before her final event, you weren't even hanging out with her, you were telling Aisha to hang out with her.

It was frustrating even on the battle setting because I remember she had a fairly high percentage attack Ougi, which would have easily outpaced Sui and Chouhi's but you can't use her in battle. Ren was really under-used in this game.

The story is alright. The gameplay is just pure reading. There is close to no choices or gameplay. The only few choices are what characters to talk to inbetween the story. While the gameplay is just semi-boring battles. Shin Koihimes battles are quite fun though.

But as mentioned it's the characters that are the main factor.

And unlike Rance, Koihime (don't know of Shin) works as utter crap as a game. The battles are nothing but a bore, there are no choices aside from "who are you going to meet."

Shin Koihime works exactly like the first game. Just that they have improved the battles.
More better looking, both graphica & effect-wise. Characters chat inbetween the battles, much more simplier, less formations and so on. Much more fast paced, you don't have to re-select formation for every attack and can switch around fast.
I found the battles in Shin Koihime quite fun. Not maybe a reason to play the game. But they were more enjoyable than the first games battles.
The battles aren't still super great, and they are quite easy. Easier than the first game. But they feel atleast much more fun than the first games battles.

The story is... ok I guess? It's nothing special but it's not bad either. The battle game system is rather boring, but if you decide you don't want to play them you can just grab a save that's already finished at least one playthrough to enable the skip battle function.

The characters, however, are just simply amazing. All of them are likeable (some VERY much so) and the interactions between them are just brilliant. If you ask me the characters alone makes up for all the flaws in the other parts of the game.

Aw crap. So I ran into an bug where the game would crash every time I right clicked. This occurred right about when I started fighting Wu. After some googling, I found out there apparently was a newer voice patch that I didn't have that fixed that problem. So after applying it, I tried to continue on with my save where I had just finished all of the home phase visits.

Well, when I hit the end phase button, I ended up looping back to the home phase again. Hitting the end phase button again got me past that phase screen and onto the next part of the game, but then the real problem appeared when I got to the next phase after defeating Shaoren in battle.

I'm pretty sure now my home phases are out of sync and one ahead of time since now I see that I can start Sonken's events even though we haven't actually fought her yet.

Does anyone know if this will become a big issue or something managable?

That happened to me too, just in another point of the game. There seems to be NO adverse effects, you just gained an extra home phase.

Do note that you gain your prisoners now before you even fight them thanks to desynch. Since this happened very early for me, not wanting to get spoiled I started a new game. Finished my now-desynched first game after the new game, no errors occured.

I heartily disagree with that. In my opinion I didn't really like RinRin because she kept setting off my pedo-sense, she looks like an 11 yr old and she acts like an 11 yr old. Well you have to remember a couple things about ancient China, it was comprised of a lot of small city states that managed to retain their independence because:
a) they usually wanted nothing more than to be left alone
b) They were too far out of the way to be legitimate conquests

Also a lot of clans held their power because they either held the most powerful positions in those city states or they had enough money to maintain a reasonable army. So I wouldn't count Shion's city as a faction, they're just another of the numerous people who were just there during the period.

It's why there's a funny capitalization in the middle of last names, since they are blending together 2 separate names.
