I used to love German games, like Airline Tycoon, Settlers II, Zanzarah, Gothic, Far Cry, Archimedean Dynasty, Rogue Squadron and so on. There are still plenty of good games out there, across all platforms. Its just the gold to dross ratio has been vastly skewed due to an expanding customer base. Many of these customers are in the casual crowd, only interested in the kind of instant gratification awarded by such games as Call of Duty/Bejewled/whatever, so as to not intrude on their social lives and work schedules. Because its far cheaper and easier to make such a game then, say, another BG, thats what most companies opt for. There is and always will be a market for the more dedicated crowd; you'll just have to sift the the increasing amounts of shovelware to reach it. Of course, there are other reasons for this skew but you get the idea.
