ZUN has to be involved, but as far as 'putting out another Touhou fighter', it's pretty much all Tasofro.

And I would say it's gonna take a bit until they do, but I am pretty sure they will eventually. SWR/Hisoutensoku sold pretty well, I believe.

I just hope Tasofro makes the next fighter a bit more seriously. Soku got kind of stale for me pretty quickly. I wanna see something closer to IaMP's system. Because damnit, I take my little girls fighting in ridiculous hats and frilly outfits VERY seriously!

Although despite that, I would probably spring a boner over any fucking game Tasofro shat out as long as it had Mima, Ichirin, and Yuka in it. I'm weak ;_;

I don't mind if it's more serious, but I want flying to stay. I know I'm going to get a few people disagreeing, but having free aerial movement is something that I absolutely love. I just feel so much more maneuverable and free. Perhaps they could try having custom movesets that don't require setting decks or something, I'm not sure.

This could go on for pages, but here's the super tl:dr version:

Soku is so sluggish and defence via BE so strong that the whole thing becomes one big fishing game once you get good at it.

Iamp has much quicker moves, cancels, etc. Bullets are actually threatening.

Both games have their flaws. If you're a fighting game player, you would normally prefer iamp. If you're a touhou fan looking to dick around in a fighter, you'd normally prefer the easier to pick up soku.

Apparently something about being less random. I kind of agree on that part since spellcards kind of leave part of the game to chance. I don't really care for IaMP though. It's a nice game, but I couldn't exactly get into it as much as I could Soku. I just love the feeling of free movement, IaMP felt a bit stiff for me.

Kind of hard to articulate given that I haven't touched either soku or IaMP in a while, but it boils down to both players having more solid control over zoning space. In soku, it's very easy to break out of bad situations due to 8 directional flying and other mechanics. In IaMP, you have no flight and the game focuses more on ground based combat. It results in a more solid, original, and fun experience. That's the best way I can put it for you without refreshing my memory on the games and their mechanics

Flying is really something that hurt soku more than helped it, I feel. It cheapened the danmaku aspect by making bullet setups only useful if they could be IMMEDIATELY followed up with melee attacks because anything less than a perfect followup would allow an enemy to fly away and avoid the attacks completely. Most of the time it wasn't even worth using bullets

I for one would not be sad if they removed flight. I know it fits the setting, but it just weakens the game and introduces a host of issues for very little, if any, gain

It's a little more viable when the players are bad. 5C and fullscreen rocket dives all day.

I loved flying because I felt as if I had a lot of control over my character. While the keepaway part of it is annoying, I genuinely enjoy being able to use it offensively to create pressure and keep it on. I liked the amount of control I had when using it. If they fix it so that bullets aren't so weak, I'm sure it could lead to being a great mechanic.

On that note, the only characters I really played were Utsuho and Remi (and Alice but she doesn't count), both of whose flight mechanics are a bit unorthodox. To escape I ended up whoring backdash more often than not.

You have no idea how much I've wanted to try Defense of the Shrines. My internet is too shittacular to play WC3 online because lolsatelliteinternet, but the urge, man. The CRAVING. It's always there. Always gnawing at my innards

Carrying games as Yuka, Utsuho, or Mima would be my dream come true
