I started by learning Kanji, and the kana just sort of learned themselves.

In many cases, even if I don't know how to pronounce any of the words, I can accurately guess what it means.

Kana might be easier, but Kanji is a hill that you have to get over and it's better to get it out of the way as soon as possible.
