So, I was listening to music from Spirited Away on Youtube, and I was reading through the comments.
Most of them were your typical "this music is amazing" or "it made me cry tears of joy" kinda thing, but I came across one comment that made me do a double-take.

Some kid was talking about how he liked the world Chihiro went to, a world of fantasy full of spirits, gods, and magic. and that he wanted to go there. (There were actually a few comments like that, now that I think about it.)

But right then is when it hit me. A world of fantasy? Spirits, gods, and magic?
Chihiro went to Gensokyo.

Now, I know what you may be thinking, "there's no bath-house in Gensokyo!" But think about it for a second. Where's one place in Gensokyo where a bath house that large could be? Mayohiga, where Yukari is said to live. Legends about Mayohiga state that it is not simply one or two houses, it is a village. A village where people wind up when they've been spirited away.
And a village of the lost is certainly big enough to have its own bath house.
Even if it's not Mayohiga, we have yet to see all of Gensokyo- it's much bigger than most people think.

What are your thoughts on this?

TLDR; Chihiro went to Gensokyo.

Failing that, this will be a Ghibli films thread, because those /a/ faggots sure as hell don't deserve them.

It's just Japanese mythology portrayed in the eyes of ZUN/Miyazaki. Of course there'll be similarities.

If it's Mayohiga, then I guess that'd explain why there are very few men in the rest of Gensokyo

Well technically, it did. Or at least Gensokyo did. It's just that ZUN isn't the first person to visit Gensokyo and express it in our world. ZUN isn't copying from mythology, mythology was also based on Gensokyo.

Strange and Bright Nature Deity implies that Gensokyo follows the seasons of the outside world, and there's nothing to suggest that time flows differently inside of Gensokyo, so it can probably be safely assumed.

Except for Eientei in eternal mode, but they don't count.

Gensokyo is at least a thousand years old.

It's just that it's only been sealed off for a few centuries.

True, but Yukari can manipulate all borders, right? That includes abstract ones, like the border between eras. It's more likely that she'd just pull in people from different eras, though, rather than making Gensokyo float between them.
